Day 27 of #28daysofblackcosplay is to my girl Princess Tiana from Disney’s The Princess and the Frog. You already know that when Disney decided to give us our first Black Princess that I was gonna cosplay her. I even went to the auditions to be an official in park Tiana. However, because of me having a big upper back tattoo I didn’t make the cut. No worries. I’m still beyond happy that now I get to make my own interpretation of the #bayouprincess . I felt heavily inspired by the bayou wedding gown in the film but also the concept art of having her having hanging vines and clusters of flowers and magnolias all about. So expect that when I start work on her. I would have loved to have her ready in time for Mardi Gras this year but sadly my work schedule is too overwhelming to leave me time to give her the love and attention she deserves. BUUUUUT she will be ready for this years @disneyd23 . Like Belle (see yesterday’s post) I want this to be a take my time, labor of love cosplay. I don’t want anything on Miss Tia to be rushed. And best believe I’ll post reels on how her progression is going! Cosplay to be made by me! As a Black cosplayer, I’ve long since realized that black cosplayers in the community don’t get their just dues and appreciation for the work they do. We are always called “variants” or “(insert character name) if they were black”. I think it’s time we break that negative stigma and show appreciation for cosplayers of color.
