If not sheltering delivery boxes from the rain, this pale umbrella on the exact spot used for filming a (prop) vegetable rack in the street is selfie suitable!

What is likely to be the site of the travel office redressed with table and two chairs at a window is behind this green shrouded area on the left. They god fed up of people taking pictures and changed its appearance.

The giftshop in that ep was a genuine giftshop but they got fed up of people coming in, taking selfie pictures and not buying anything so closed. The businesses on that spot are not public walk in areas.

BBC Sherlock/Elementary comparisons - basically the reply to someone's fundamental criticism concerning BBC's Sherlock

I read THIS blog post about the difference between Elementary and BBC Sherlock and have to disagree. The criticism is too harsh and is based on a mini-sode! and the gap of knowledge about European society and 'tradition'.

Bascially, the author states that Elementary is so much better, because it has a female Watson and a female Moriarty and the supporting characters are much more developed and it does not only evolve around two straight white male characters and  so on, no new 'accusations' basically, but what people fail to see, is that Europe doesn't have this tradition as a melting pot of cultures and races. If you live in central Europe, even when you live in a big city like Berlin or London it's nothing like in New York. You basically see white people, Central Europeans, the demography is still totally different from an US American one. That's the truth. If BBC would artificially incorporate many Asian people and Afro-american people (which would be great) it would look strange, it would look American! Our society is still more homogeneous than the US-American one. The reason lies obviously in Europe's history. Believe it or not. It has nothing to do with racism, it has more to do with what is 'normal to the eye' to the one who writes this show. Moffat looks around himself and so does Gatiss and they basically see white Europeans. That's it, and their writing is based on their daily life experiences. I bet it's more or less a subconscious thing. What the post states about Irene Adler and her turn from being a Lesbian to suddenly being straight bc of Sherlock makes more sense to me and I agree. That was indeed absolutely shitty writing.

But BBCs Sherlock has strong women indeed: Molly is a very strong female character in a subtle way, Mary is one of the strongest female characters I happen to know, she is smart, she knows what she wants,she is incorruptible, she even turns (much to my surprise) into a former assassin. She has her own agenda which does not depend on the so called 'white male characters' (which I find btw also a bit a simple approach, characters, fictional characters are more than their gender and skin colour!!!) I don't think Mary's background story is underdeveloped at all. It's excellent. Gatiss and Moffat really introduced her to us as a complex character - even mysterious.

When it comes to the point: Orientalism: Either Gatiss nor Moffat confirmed that the 'Irene Adler rescue' really happened. The scene could have been totally only in Sherlock's head. It's a stylistic element Moffat and Gatiss used very often: they suggest or imply a possible scenario to the viewer, but if we believe it or not is up to us. They're playing with our minds and I love it. And last but not least: There is a difference regarding a usual TV show that runs weekly and has much more time/space to develope characters who do not belong to the 'main cast' than a show that has 85 minutes three times a year!!!  Anyway, I wanted to get this out of my system. It's of course my personal & humble opinion.
