I don't know if anyone has already written something like this but-

AU where Charles has been in love with Edwin for years and knows it

After Edwin confesses in Hell and Charles responds with "Love you too", Edwin assumes Charles means it platonically and is dejected by the fact that it didn't even occur to Charles that Edwin's "I love you" might have been romantic

He takes it as Charles not feeling the same so he doesn't correct him and doesn't add "as more than a friend/I'm in love with you", he just lets it go

Meanwhile, Charles, who very much meant it romantically, just wanted to get both of them out of Hell asap, which is why he said it so nonchalantly, is over the moon that Edwin finally returns his feelings and that they're both in a relationship now

Right?

And if Edwin turns his head when Charles tries to kiss him and goes in for a hug instead, well, that's just fine with Charles, maybe Edwin's just too shy to kiss him yet

Needless to say, Edwin does NOT think they're together, he just thinks Charles is acting weird, although the extra hugs are nice
