I think my favourite story from the Titanic is the story of the ship's baker.
Basically when the ship started to go down, the Captain said his really famous line 'Be British' but it was really vague and no one really knew what it meant. The baker took this as 'get pissed' which to be fair is quite a British thing to do. He got super drunk and went down with the ship into the icy water, but hypothermia couldn't set in because his blood was so thin from the alcohol, so when he was rescued he was absolutely fine.
He literally survived a huge disaster by doing the British thing of getting drunk...that man is my hero.
