HRC members and supporters are also invited to a special Town Hall next Wednesday, August 27th. We will be discussing current events in the LGBTQ+ community, threats to marriage equality and the American Dreams Tour.
We’re proud to announce the next digital issue of Equality magazine — a benefit of your membership in the Human Rights Campaign and a reflection of you and your support. Thank you for your impact.
Last month, in response to the sharp increase in anti-LGBTQ+ attacks at both the state and federal levels, HRC launched its American Dreams Tour: Equality Across America — a bold, nationwide initiative to spotlight LGBTQ+ resilience, resistance and joy. HRC President Kelley Robinson will be collaborating with local LGBTQ+ leadership and advocates to amplify awareness of LGBTQ+ issues and raise the alarms for much needed organization and policy change in a wider effort to bring equality to every corner of the country.
This is the time to remain committed — please consider renewing or making a special contribution today!
The American Dreams Tour coincides with the launch of HRC’s “One Million Voices for Equality” campaign, an effort to engage one million LGBTQ+ people and allies and put a renewed focus on one of the most powerful tools we have for changing hearts, minds and policies: our personal stories.
This new issue of Equality tells the story of both major initiatives and features other stories that impact us directly. I hope you’ll find hope, joy and a reflection of you into our work:
Defending Equality at the Ballot Box: For much of the United States, 2025 marks a welcome respite from the relentless drumbeat seen in a typical election year, when candidates blanket the airwaves. There’s no respite in New Jersey and Virginia, however — two states that schedule their statewide elections in so-called “off years.” What does this mean for the LGBTQ+ communities in those states?
These Classrooms Don’t Run: As students return to classrooms this fall, they’re not just walking into hallways decorated with welcome signs — they’re entering a political battlefield. For LGBTQ+ students, the back-to-school season now means bracing against attacks on their identities, their histories and their very right to be seen in the places they are supposed to feel safest. The HRC Foundation’s Welcoming Schools program is stepping up to help them learn, grow and thrive.
There’s Magic in the Ordinary: Reading books about LGBTQ+ lives and families is an incredibly powerful way to celebrate our stories, highlight representation for our community and create connection and understanding with our non-LGBTQ+ friends and neighbors. For a decade, the Welcoming Schools National Day of Reading has been at the forefront of promoting inclusive stories inside and outside the classroom.
The Power of LGBTQ+ Inclusion in Uncertain Times: In today’s climate — where LGBTQ+ rights are increasingly under threat across the United States — the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s Working with Pride: Understanding Best Practices in LGBTQ+ Inclusion toolkit could not be more essential. It’s more than a guide; it’s a beacon of empowerment, giving LGBTQ+ individuals and allies the tools they need to create change in their workplaces and communities.
Please enjoy your new issue of Equality magazine and look at what you have accomplished.
And please join us for our special town hall on Wednesday, August 27th. RSVP and save the date!
I’m grateful for your support each and every day. Thank you.
With Appreciation & Pride,
