beach boy auuuu so jentry and kit are actually childhood friends here. she still lives in riverfork with flora and moonie, but vacations over to where kit and zhongkui live during the summers. these 2 get along very well (she's his only friend tbh) and they're known as the (adorable) troublemakers around the area. they're attached at the hip no matter how much they bicker

zhongkui and kit!! kit’s probably like 7 ish here

in this au kit is kind of bratty and really clingy to dad once he’s used to his new home life. he’s the type of kid to hide behind him and glare at you if he’s not a fan. zhongkui is pretty much the same as in canon, which is very very chill. he also adores his ‘kitkat’ a ton and will listen to his endless rambles and answer all of his silly questions.

some beach boy zhongkui bc he’s on my mind. also slight exposition dump

so for this au, zhongkui was a champion surfer in his youth. trophies, medals, magazine covers, you name it. he’s a well known name and face in the sport, a crazy talent. i only figured he’d have something that made him stand out more visually, and what better way to show that off than with a sick tatt he got on a whim. here, he’s in his early/mid 20’s.

i wanted to keep some of canon zhongkui elements present, so i opted to use his swirly portals as a design for a flowing arm/chest piece. and i had to keep his ying/yang symbol as its another iconic part of his design! i did utilize thinner lines more as opposed to thicker ones just to add some more flow and interest. also some of the line work may change but as of now i’m pretty satisfied with it

So, he adopts a four year old Kit.

what was Kit’s life before being adopted by Zhongkui? was he just in an orphanage? was he in foster care, if so, what were his experiences like?

He was with a foster family since he was an infant! (Specifically, his ''parents'' from ep 5 in the show)

They were...not good parents to him at all. They were the type who took him in because it would look good for their image, but really left Kit to his own devices when he was really little. They treated him marginally well in public, but mostly forgot about him any other time. A quote he was taught was 'children shouldn't be seen or heard'.

And by the time Zhongkui had him, Kit had clear issues from his previous home life- very quiet, some food insecurity, and really withdrawn. Zhongkui was very patient with him and got him all the help he needed, but it took a while for Kit to trust him. But once he does, he's very attached to Zhongkui.

specifically since kit lives in a 'tourist town' i can def see tokki, min-jae and rupert being exchange students or smth and they surprisingly hit it off with him but i think it fits
