This is where the house stands at the four month mark almost to the date as of Saturday. It was also the crews’ last day of work until they return after the holidays to finish up.  When they return in January they’ll be finishing both ground and rooftop pergola, tiling of the back entrance, stairs and rooftop patio, finishing the car port, knocking out an entrance in the fence for vehicle access, building gates, installing the solar system and other little interior details here and there.  We’re also pretty eager to start growing our garden and landscaping. Having more plant life will really help all of the blowing dust and we have a long dry season ahead but we have been collecting all of our grey water from the kitchen sink and shower so already have a lot of water saved for plants.  Edward was back to install our walk-in pantry off the kitchen. We are so thankful to Tony and Mia who have been allowing us to store most of our kitchen equipment in their bodega until the pantry was installed over the weekend. I’m excited to get organized and will be sharing a “how to stock a plant-based pantry” blog post on my new website which will be launching in the new year.  Happy Holidays everyone and if anyone would like to come visit us in the new year, Tony and Mia will be renting their new villa next to our property. Week 10 cont’d

1. Hazed out windows in the bathroom + a sky light over the shower.

3 - 5. Kitchen sliders + window over the sink  6. Front door/entrance 

7 - 8. Building the steps to access the rooftop patio.  9. Working on the walls on the rooftop patio.  Scheduled to move up the first week of December. We’ll see how much exterior work can get done before then!

Week 10

All of the windows, sliding doors and two of four doors were installed. 

1. Exterior 

2 - 5. Bedroom  6 - 8. Hallway leading to the walk-in closet + bathroom  9. Cedar door dividing the kitchen from the bathroom/walk-in closet + bedroom.

Week 9 updates.  1. 2. 3. 4. Installing the flat stone countertops in the kitchen.  5. 6. Finishing up the floor tile in our little bedroom.  7. Sky light in the bathroom over the shower.  8. Finishing the walls in the bathroom and added a small area to grow a plant or two next to the shower. I think the kitties may use this as a litter box until they (I) feel comfortable enough to let them venture outdoors. It’ll depend on whether our fence is finished by the time we move in or not.  8. 9. Pillars going in to prepare for the pergola installation over the ground floor deck.  Windows and doors begin installation today. Once installation is complete, hopefully in the next few days tops, Shamus will move into the bedroom. It’s all starting to come together! Two and a half weeks until myself and the animals move in.

We didn’t have too many updates to report last week so we thought we’d compile week 6 with week 7.  1. The windows and doors were measured at the beginning of last week and will be installed between Nov 11 - 14.  2. The last of the rainy season hardships. 

3. Laying the eucalyptus rounds to start the ceiling. 4. Our vision beginning to take shape!  5. Finishing the interior walls first, laying the floor tiles will come next so when the windows and doors are installed we can “technically” start to move in or at least start moving things from Apoyo into the house.  Beginning to really feel the stress/pressure of completely finishing a house in three months time. I can only imagine how Shamus is feeling and he’s been doing a phenomenal job. 4 weeks to go! 

6. Matt and Rachel arrived to the beach early morning on the 26th. They will be managing the Salinas Surf House this season and I’m so excited to have them as neighbors! Shamus went out on an early morning fishing trip with Matt, Doug (the owner of the Salinas Surf House,) Scott and Donaldo who is visiting from the laguna to work with Matt and Rachel temporarily.
