I'm still burning this week, but I did go for a just-for-me walk last week. Spring is springing! #morel #bearcorn #trillium #neature #naturewalk #outsideisbestside #notart https://www.instagram.com/p/CcnGt1vOq5R/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
Native plant of the day is Bearcorn - Conopholis americana. Bearcorn is a parasite plant, this plant has no chlorophyll and gains its nutrients from the roots of oak trees. Bearcorn is relatively short-lived presumably poisoned by tannins within the same root structures they feed upon. Fruits are formed along the "tubercle" structures and usually consumed by mammals. The name bearcorn probably refers to the presence of seeds found within bear droppings, passing through the digestive tract unaffected.
