Anyways Stede's shocked reaction to Ed's beardlessness was about guilt not about Ed's level of attractiveness. Ed can't be Blackbeard without his black beard and Stede thinks that he is selfishly taking away Blackbeard from piracy and Ed being beardless is a physical manifestation of that guilt. Stede needs to accept that Ed is giving up Blackbeard because he sees the Blackbeard mantle as a prison and that even if he was forced to shave because he signed the act of grace shedding the mantle of Blackbeard was incredibly freeing for Ed and it's what Ed wants . Once he accepts that there will be no beard issues. Stede will be hopelessly in love with an wildly attracted to Ed reguardless of what he does with his facial hair.

Alright, I’m thinking about it again and—

We actually don’t know how Izzy reacted at first to seeing beardless Ed (we don’t get theme time between ‘I’ll take tea in my room’ and Izzy getting Lucius) but I’ll bet it was worse than just Stede’s screaming.

Anyway—the only person who doesn’t like Ed beardless is Izzy

Also just personal thoughts, Marcus grew the facial hair during an undercover op yes, but hes normally clean shaven.

So when its finished and he goes to reach for his shaving kit? He thinks about what you said. That you think he looks extra handsome with the facial hair, especially the moustache. And he remembers the shy littlw smile you had when you said it, how you looked down and immediately distracted yourself and changed the subject beacuse you were embaressed.

And suddenly Marcus realizes his hand is still outstretched to grab the kit, him now holding a wide smile of his own. And he decides against it. If just for the potential of the next time he sees you, just maybe you'll be exicted that he decided to keep it.

You're making me yearn in the morning and this is unacceptable...please keep going.

But this is so sweet though. This was the first case the two of you worked on together, and it was kind of obvious that he grew it out because he was going through a break-up but it aligned perfectly with the undercover op so he could just use that as an excuse. And you're right, he's normally clean-shaven. He's not used to facial hair. He goes out of his way to make sure that he always looks presentable and professional, and the facial hair makes him look a little too laid back or something so it was perfect for going undercover. And then, oh my god.

Then one day, when you and him are eating take-out in the hotel room, you point at his face and you tell him that you like the whole thing he's got going on. And the poor man thinks you're teasing him so he smiles shyly at you and rubs his beard and tells you that he doesn't think it looks that good on him because it's not a full-on beard. But you slip and you tell him that, while you appreciate him clean-shaven because he has a strong jawline, you like him with the scruff more because it brings out the color of his eyes and he looks more handsome because of how soft he is. And Marcus thinks that you drank too much so he doesn't know what to say and when he finally looks at you, he sees that you're a little embarrassed by what you just said and you look down at your plate to avoid making eye contact.

And Marcus. Sweet sweet Marcus can't stop thinking about what you said because this was the first time someone called him 'handsome'. Not even the women he went out with ever said any of those nice things, and he feels a little fuzzy because he genuinely thought you didn't speak to him often because you disliked him or something. But he can't stop thinking about your comment. And when the two of you finish the case and go out for drinks, his beard is a little thicker than before and he swears you keep glancing at it every now and then he thought he's imagining in the beginning but you drink a little too much and when he's taking you home, you can't stop talking about how sweet he looks with the beard. And when he stops outside your place and helps you up the stairs, you sort of lean against the doorway and just stare at him. And you stare. And you keep staring some more.

"Don't ever shave it off, please."

And he doesn't know what to make of the drunken comment so he just smiles and nods to you as you let yourself in. And he goes home with a smile on his face. But when he sees you the next day, you're back to your quiet self again, and he wants to tell you that there's no need to be embarrassed for what you said but you don't give him a chance to say anything. And Marcus feels a little bad you know, because he never meant to make things awkward, especially with you. Not you. So he gives you a couple of days to maybe forget what happened and he gets an email saying that he has an important meeting coming up. And he really doesn't want to go to this meeting but he has to, so when he goes home and reaches for the kit to shave his beard because he knows for a fact that some comment will be thrown out over his look, he stops instantly and he remembers what you said to him all those weeks ago. And he looks at himself in the mirror and rubs at the scruff on his face and he decides that he won't shave it off because he really wants you to call him 'handsome' again. He wants you to notice him again. And fuck, he really really would like to have you caress his cheeks as he kissed you.

So he doesn't do it. And he goes to the meeting the next day, and when the meeting is done and everyone is going out for coffee, one of the guys asks him why he still had the beard when the op was done. And he looks at you with a smile on his face and shrugs his shoulders and-

"I was told it makes me look more handsome so I'm keeping it for a bit."

And everyone teases him and elbows him while asking who called him that, and he feels bad for how embarrassed you look and how much you want to leave the lunch so he shakes his head and mimes zipping his mouth.

"I was going to shave it off last night but I was kind of hoping she would notice me again. Either that or the handsome thing got to my head."

And he laughs it off while looking at you and when you relax your shoulders and return the smile, he swears his heart skips a beat and the rest of the lunch goes by without any more awkward moments. And when everyone leaves, Marcus comes up to you and nudges you playfully to get your attention, and you hide behind your hands while giggling and-

"God I thought I overstepped the line with you and I felt horrible."

And Marcus takes your wrists down and he leans a little to the side to take a better look at you and when he looks into your eyes and sees the pure joy in them at finally moving past that one night, he winks at you and steps into your space. You're about to ask him what he's doing when he kisses your cheek softly and lingers for a tad bit too long.

"You're so sweet," is the only thing he says as he pulls away and nods towards the building. You can't believe that Marcus Pike, the Agent Marcus Pike, just kissed you and you're torn between reaching for him and pulling him back, and telling him that you don't think you'll be able to function for the rest of the day.

He beats you to it in the end, and instead of replaying the kiss in your head, you replay the moment when he asked you out to dinner.

I am a fan of beards, and I like him with one. But there is a subtle but important difference between this:

The first is neatly groomed, and trimmed back. The second looks like he just doesn’t care (in fact it looks like all he cares about is David’s mouth lol)
