He’d managed to shake (ha.) Rusty for the time being, but avoiding one ghost was a lot easier than avoiding the current hellscape of New York as a whole. The streets were fucking riddled with pumpkins, skeletons, flying broomsticks, and talking animals, and Rictor just... kind of wanted a break. Just for a minute. It was unrealistic given the general state of his life, sure, but it was something to strive for all the same.
Ducking into an alley, he lit a cigarette and sighed, leaning back against the brick wall. He closed his eyes for a second, took a drag of the cigarette, and pretended not to feel the steady thump thump thump of a heartbeat, pretended not to sense the vibrations of approaching footsteps. Unfortunately, the stupid goddamn training Cable had drilled into him meant he couldn’t really avoid it for long.
His eyes snapped open and he scanned the alley, stopping when he spotted the intruder. It was... a cat. A green cat. Rictor exhaled smoke. “Whatever you’re gonna say,” he said pointedly, “I really don’t want to hear it.” There was a pause, and then, “No. Actually. Were you green before this shit started, or did that come with the whole ‘speaking’ thing? ‘Cause I blew up a rat earlier, but it was a normal rat color. I just wanna know what to expect here, moving forward.”
