Brutal Behemoth: Beath!
Description: Beath is a quadrupedal reptile, with powerful, articulate legs and claws. His head is topped with a pair of dangerous black horns, as well as the beginning of a frill that runs along his back. His jaw is filled with sharp teeth, with piercing yellow eyes set in his skull. His long tail is tipped with spikes, which appear very similar to the horns atop his head. His scales are dark blue, perfect for the deep ocean he typically lives in.
Age of Origin: Awakened Acient
Height: 70 Meters
Combat Abilities: Beath is a ruthless fighter, using the horns atop his head and spikes tipping his tail to repel anything that comes within range, and attacking anything at range with an acidic spit. It has limited “ammo” but it is extremely good at eating through kaiju hide.
Weakness: Beath’s ranged attack isn’t the best, despite it’s danger of burning through kaiju hide. If one is able to keep their distance and dodge the attack they hold an advantage over Beath, but it isn’t one they can hold forever, especially with the brutal tenacity the reptilian kaiju possesses.
Backstory: Beath is yet another reawakened kaiju, but his circumstances differ from his kin. He did not go into hibernation due to a lack of Kaijiation, but instead was trapped within a glacier long before that. The kaiju was awakened, in a roundabout manner, by another kaiju.
This kaiju was the target of the highest yield nuclear weapons ever launched, and the ensuing explosion melted the glacier enough to awaken Beath! Beath went on a rampage immediately afterwards, culminating in a battle with the surviving kaiju. The kaiju, which had shrugged off any military attack as usual, and had survived the nuclear warhead, was completely torn apart by Beath.
After the fight, Beath retreated into ocean, where he remained for a long stretch of time. Eventually he was spotted again, the sighting taking place near a lighthouse, where his mournful cries could be heard. Soon after he appeared, he was gone again. These sightings have continued sporadically, but he has yet to show any hostility towards humans, aside from his first appearance.
What humanity does not know, is that Beath is searching for another of his kind. His mate and children were alive when he had been trapped in his glacier, but he awoke to an alien world, with nothing remaining. Everything he knew is gone, and there is nothing left for him. Still he searches, hoping to one day find the loved ones that were lost.
How He Interacts with Other Kaiju: If Beath sees another kaiju, he will be immediately drawn to them, hoping to find a familiar face. After this tactic ended badly the first several times he did it, he has been more cautious, observing them from a distance. He has yet to find any that he recognizes, and his mournful cries are usually all a kaiju hears before he returns to the ocean.
Beath is easily the most obvious homage I have so far, I think. He’s a big shout-out to the Beast from 20,000 Fathoms, which has been on my mind because of the second half of his inspiration, a recently discovered reptile that possessed a pair of horns. Of course, the real reptile didn’t use them as weapons, but the image stuck. Ultimately, Beath got an ending similar to his inspirations literary counterpart, where he lives, but is left alone. I’m pretty happy with how he turned out, and he acts as kind of a counterpart with Equimate too! A gentle but combat skilled reptile, versus a calm demeanored but actually very hostile mammalian kaiju.
