Bad Blood Ship Drabble
Dan wasn’t good at emotions or feelings or any of that sentimental stuff. That was a given ever since he had his humanity ripped out—even merging with Plasmius, that hopeless romantic, didn’t do anything to make him better at feelings.
There was a point to bringing this up, Dan knew he was bad at emotions, it wasn’t a new discovery or anything like that, it just had never bothered him before like it was now.
Feelings were useless to him until Jason Todd came into his life.
Jason, with his bright eyes and cute smile. His muscular body and perfect hair—he had everything Dan could ever want.
He was the Red Hood, for Ancients’ sake! They were a match made in hell; a (semi)redeemed universal killer and a crime lord.
Dan found out about Jason being the Red Hood quickly after meeting Jason himself.
He wasn’t fucking stupid, he was once a vigilante, he knew the signs. It was only a matter of putting a face on a body. Or a face on a red helmet.
Besides; Jason Todd said to be dead soon after the second Robin’s death? Yeah, Dan wasn’t an idiot.
When he told Jason he knew after a few months into the relationship, he confessed about his own past. The alternate universe that was once his, the humanity being ripped out, the killing, everything.
He even told him about how he was a halfa to this day, still half-ghost after Clockwork helped him.
Jason didn’t judge him, didn’t call him a monster or a killer or any other cruel name that Dan probably deserved.
No, he just held him as he cried and told him how much he loved him anyways.
Jason loved him for him.
And Dan really loved Jason. Truly.
Which led to his current issue; Jason’s birthday. He was having dinner with Jay’s family (yes he knew the Big Bat’s identity and the rest, and they knew who and what he was).
They weren’t thrilled about Jason dating a half-ghost who had killed everyone on planet Earth (including them) in an alternate universe, but no one was willing to upset Jason or get him angry, so they dropped it.
Alfred also gave them a look if they stared at Dan a little too long, which made the Halfa respect the human man infinitely.
The actual issue, though, was that Dan had no idea if Jason was going to like his gift. The halfa had tried his damndest to get something that his boyfriend would love and cherish, but he was…well. Dan was Dan, and he was afraid he’d fuck it up.
So he was more than just a little bit nervous, understandably.
“Present time!” Dick Grayson shouted loudly, pushing Jason’s shoulders so he sat on the couch, everyone bringing over wrapped presents, “Come on! Pick one to open first!”
Dan was forced to sit next to Batman himself, Bruce Wayne, as Dick and Duke took over the spots near Jason.
It felt very purposeful, but the halfa let that go. It was Jason’s day, he didn’t want to ruin it by starting another fight about their disapprovement of their relationship.
Dick had gotten Jason a little bear stuffed toy dressed up as the Red Hood, which apparently was being sold in toy stores as of recently.
“Seven heads in a duffle bag,” Jason raised an eyebrow as he stared at the bear like it had insulted him, “And this is how I’m being represented?”
Everyone got a pretty good laugh out of that. Tim and Damian surprisingly worked together on a gift to get him a signed copy of the first book in a series that he’d recently tried out and had enjoyed while Bruce got a library section named after him.
The gifts from Duke, Steph, and Cass followed soon after, and finally it was Dan’s turn.
Damian, who had been dubbed as the person to pass the gifts to Jason, delivered the wrapped box onto his lap.
“I–uh,” Dan cleared his throat, trying his best to pull himself together, “Since you're technically a revenant I thought that a piece of ghost culture would be—uh. Well, gifts for ghosts tend to go after two things, Obsession or Closure—and since revenants don’t have obsessions I tried to go for the second one—so, uh. Hope you like it,”
Dan could feel his cheeks flush, I fucked this up already, I can feel it.
Jason just gave him a smile, “I’m sure I’ll love it,”
He opened the gift, taking the top of the box and just…froze.
And stared down at Dan’s gift.
Just stared.
And stared.
Frozen.
“Jaylad?” Bruce leaned forward, an accusatory glare being shot at Dan, “What’s happening? Are you alright?”
Jason opened his mouth only to close it and reopen it and followed that cycle a few times before finally talking, “I—Dan. Did you do this? For me? Really?”
Dan swallowed.
Did he hate it?
“Yeah, is–is it good? Do you like it…? It’s okay if you don’t, I’m still new to all this and I can get you something else—”
Jason flung himself in Dan’s arms, pressing his lips to his boyfriend and wrapped his arms around his neck, “I love you so much! This is the most amazing thing anyone has ever done! And the hottest!”
Dan smiled softly, kissing his boyfriend back, “I’m glad you like it,”
Jason grinned, “You’re the best boyfriend I could have ever asked for,”
“I think the honor of best boyfriend goes to you,”
“Debatable,”
Steph snorted, “So, going to share with the class before you start making out in front of us?”
Jason huffed, “Look for yourself, I have the best boyfriend!”
Bruce was the one who actually took action, grasping the box from the floor and looking inside it, his face paling and expression twisted into horror, shock, and a bit of exasperation.
He probably should’ve expected this, honestly.
Dmian peeked over his shoulder, “Todd, I approve of your paramour, he clearly is well trained in the act of courting,”
Bruce turned to look at his youngest child, “Damian. My boy. He got him the decapitated head of the Joker.”
Dick choked on his water, “He what?!”
Jason just grinned, “It’s so hot,”
Dan coughed slightly, “Uh, so…good gift?”
The revenant just played with the hem of his boyfriend’s shirt, “Amazing gift, but I expect an even better one tonight~”
“Gross!”
“Ew!”
“Jaylad, please,”
“Father!”
“Ha!”
“Master Jason, must you make such sexual innuendos?”
“Bleh!”
