listen...i know i keep saying it, but the alphas were some of the most complex and well written characters pb ever wrote...and they were wasted!
like for example, there’s nathan, who roped the mc into thinking that he really loved her and that he wanted to help her find who crashed into tyler’s car, when it turns out he was the one who did it! and he did it just to be president of a fucking fratiority or whatever the hell it’s called. not to mention he and his friends ruined the mc and her friend’s fucking lives for what? for a shitty little plaque. and when he’s confronted, what does he do? he just says “yeah, i did.” with no remorse...no apologies. nothing! this man ruined the life of the mc, and he’s just standing there gloating about it! and his justification/explanation is that he knew his parent’s money could bail him out like it always has, so he wanted to see how far he could go before he got caught...and one of the things he tried was fucking attempted murder. when have we EVER had a character like that in choices?
also. i have to say it, because i romanced nathan. the mc poured her fucking heart to him and made love to him (more than once, might i add), only for him to throw it all back in her face, telling her that the whole thing was just “an added bonus” and it was fucking incredible. aside from diavolos, a li has never betrayed the mc before (paolo doesn’t really count cause nerdy!twin wasn’t really an mc, at least in my eyes). and although i hated the betrayal, it was such a good twist.
then there’s beau. beau, who’s ‘new money’ and who is obviously very private about that fact. so much so that he put glue in someone’s shampoo over it. in choices, we’ve very rarely had a character as...psychotic as beau, shall we say. we found out via a diamond scene that his mother told him to “be more like nathan.” which throws up a possible storyline about beau idolising nathan, to the point that he’d do whatever he says. i mean, arguably you could say that he idolises nathan right now. not to mention that nathan is the one who told beau the mc was investigating him, and even after that, nathan was prepared to kick beau out of atm because of how public his pranks were. like how fucking ice cold is that??? just imagine, beau would probably think that nathan was such a good friend, because he let him know he was being investigated, only for nathan to turn around and throw it back in his face. ice. fucking. cold.
and finally. we have kassidy. we don’t have a lot of information about her...and i fucking love that. all we know is that beau manipulated her and threatened to leak the info about her cheating on assignments unless she helped ruin becca, zig and kaitlyn’s futures, and that she knew about nathan’s plans from the start. and that’s it! for all we know, she could have been WAY more involved than just in what happened to zig, becca and kaitlyn. and i mean, she arguably lured mc into a trap by making her come to the atm house to hear her ‘apology’ before nathan told her beau was leaving, she followed him out, and was almost set on fire in their old club house. i just love that we have this air of mystery about kassidy and her true involvement.
finally, i recently replayed chapter one of the junior, and i just fucking loved that the three of them were standing with mc, telling her how amazing she was, and how awful what happened to tyler was, and how they wished that the person who did it would be found....whilst they knew EXACTLY what happened to tyler, AND to them, she was just a campus do-gooder who had to be destroyed, just for the chaos of it, and probably because everything the mc does/stands for goes against their ‘cause terror’ attitudes.
damn, i love the alphas. also it should be said (cause it’s tumblr) i’m not justifying their actions, please don’t hit anyone with your car intentionally/try to set them on fire etc. i’m just justifying the way they’re written
