the refreshing smell of the late summer ocean, the warm sand beneath your feet and the pretty white sundress you wore, while hand in hand with the sweetest man you knew and loved, nanami kento.
you glanced over towards him, tilting your head over to get a better view, to see his eyes light up and a smile across his face; the golden sun reflecting his features, making him look like an angel sent from above.
you didn't know how long it had been walking by the ocean, but it didn't matter- seeing nanami happy was all you wanted right now.
work had been consuming him entirely, leaving him no time to properly rest, so you booked a surprise trip to malaysia, somewhere he'd always wanted to go to.
"you're liking this a lot, aren't you, kento?" you teased, giving him a peck on the cheek as the tips of his ears became a very obvious shade of pink.
"i'm loving it."
this time you turned back to look at the horizon, blushing all over.
even thought you had been with him for nearly 4 years, sometimes, those little words of affection touched your heart in more ways than one.
honey-golden locks, smooth, warm skin, tinted glasses and a heart-warming cuddle every night was nanami to you, priceless and precious.
---
the surrounding noise of laughter of children died down slowly, the water swaying back and forth touching your feet colder, and the sky washed with purple and pink hues, the half-crescented moon in sight.
there came a comfortable pause after giggling about something only you two knew, pulling him in closer like warm blanket on a cold night.
streetlights were lit up across the beach which seemed so far; and there lay no one on the beach anymore — just you two.
"can i tell you something, my love?" nanami spoke, serious and calm.
"of course." you smiled, as nanami stopped walking.
"all my life, i've spent my time looking for something that i would love and cherish with all my heart. i thought it would always stay the same, working a job that would swallow me whole - until i met someone with a smile i would treasure, a beautiful face that i would keep in my wallet forever, and my true happiness and peace: you. you mean the entire universe to me and i will continue to love you for the rest of my life, will you marry me, y/n?"
kento nanami now stood on one knee, opening a box to the prettiest diamond ring you had ever seen, crystal-clear and sparkling under the moonlight.
you had started crying already, your breath shaky but your heart filled with so much overwhelming joy.
"yes- kento--yes!" you hugged him so tight, arms wrapped around his neck with his around your waist holding you so close to him.
he gently slipped the ring on your finger, brushing his thumb over the back of your hand as he did, sealing in his pure love for you forever.
you kissed him first, deep and slow like this moment would never go.

Matt nods, leaving the front of the house. The girl loses sight of him and enters the house, where everyone is seated at the breakfast table, eating normally and chatting.
"Grandpa, how long has that boy.. Matt, been working here?"
Henry stops eating to listen to his granddaughter, chuckles, and begins to answer her.
"oh darling, it's been a while, he's young but he's my best worker here, why the question?"
"He was just showing us the place... just out of curiosity."
She knew there was more, but she didn't ask; she knew her grandfather, he wouldn't talk so easily, so she just let it go, while Eleanor, who was eating, asked curiously.
"Who is Matt? Does he work here?"
Before anyone can answer, SJ bothers everyone (like the noisy boy he is) and quickly explains to his mother that he liked Dr. Matt, it was obvious.
"He's the cool cowboy who saved me from the wild horse bite!! we went to see the baby lambs too, they were soooo cute!"
Eleanor chuckled, getting up from the table, leaving her dishes in the sink, and washing them.
"That's great, son, I hope you guys have fun here"
Eleanor said, anticipating her children's confusion, y/n immediately raised an eyebrow and asked.
"What do you mean by 'having fun here'? I don't get it"
Then Henry begins to speak, also getting up from the table.
"Your mom will let you stay here this summer; she has business to attend to, and I also need a hand taking care of this large farm."
SJ Gasp, he really wanted to go, but y/n wasn't so excited anymore. She had so many plans with her friends for these months, how could she possibly spend time in this place?
"Why didn't you say anything, Mom? You're kidding, right? We didn't even bring a suitcase or anything."
Elanor dries her hands on a dish towel and leans against the kitchen sink.
"No arguing, dear, I brought the suitcases, they're in the car, now you'd better get them and bring them here because I need to leave soon."
y/n sighed, she didn't want to, but what could she do? Not much, so she just went outside to get some air. She sat on the front steps of the house, staring at her useless cell phone with no signal.
She glanced to the side and a white, fluffy cat with a red collar appeared, seemingly greeting her. The cat's collar had a name on it, but it was scratched out with a hint of disgust. It seemed to go for walks quite a bit. She could only see a phone number, but she didn't call.
She enjoyed the cat's company for the time being. During this time with the pet, she managed to discover that the cat was female and that it loved neck scratches.
The cat suddenly ran off towards something, or rather, someone. That someone was Matt. The cat seemed to like the boy quite a lot. Well, who wouldn't get attached to such a handsome boy, right? Thoughts aside, Matt approached and the cat followed him, always at his feet. He sat down next to the girl, at a safe distance.
"I saw that you met Lady B"
The girl looked at the cat sitting between them, she was petting it, while looking at Matt and smiling at the cat's name.
"Why 'Lady B'?"
Matt chuckled and petted the cat too.
"Because the 'B' comes from my middle name, Bernard. this cat was supposed to belong to the neighbor, but one day I went to fix a burnt-out lightbulb at his house and she became way too attached to me."
y/n chuckled, amused by the story, well, at least her grandfather's cute worker could cheer her up
"Why are you here alone? It feels like you're in a movie."
The smile on her face remains; she glances at the door behind her and then at Matt again.
"I just found out I'm going to spend the summer here."
Matt raised both eyebrows in understanding.
"It's difficult to get used at first, but you'll like the place; there's no shortage of things to do here."
The girl looks at the farm a little further away, then at Matt.
"I find it difficult to adjust here."
Matt gave a knowing little smile; he'd grown up in that environment. He couldn't offer much advice, but he understood her. It was the complete opposite of her daily routine.
"I know, if I went somewhere different from here I wouldn't adapt so easily. What would become of me without my horse? Without Lady B chasing me around? No way"
The girl smiles, and a comfortable silence settles in, the birds singing and the morning calmly passing, but it doesn't last long, until SJ bursts open the front door and runs off playing, followed by Henry and Eleanor; she seemed to be saying goodbye.
Matt immediately stood up when he saw Henry, like a child caught doing something wrong. Henry didn't say anything but nodded towards the farm, indicating where Matt should go, and of course he did.
Eleanor took SJ and Y/N's suitcase out of the car and left it in front of the house with Henry's help. SJ was chasing some chickens and Eleanor saying goodbye to her children with a kiss in they're head. And so mom left, and so begins the most unusual summer of these siblings' lives.
At night things are different, y/n was in the new room for the next few months, reading a book wearing a tank top and sweatpants, her hair always braided, and reading a book by the window.
Then she heard something tapping on the window. At first she ignored it, but she heard it again; it was a small stone tapping. She looked outside and there was Matt, waving, and she opened the window.
"What are you doing here? It's late, you know?"
She said in a whisper, loud enough for him to hear, and he smiled.
"It's not too late yet, even though it seems like it. I only saw you from the window, all bored reading the book. Do you want to see something more interesting?"
She smiles but tries to hide it, but obviously fails.
"And since when have you been staring at me from the window?"
Matt's smile fades for a second before returning to his face.
"That's not the point, do you want to go see the cool stuff or not?"
She rolls her eyes, smiling, and closes the window, going downstairs carefully so as not to wake anyone, and leave through the door. They meet on the side of the house.
"That's definitely not a cool outfit to wear to see cool things."
She puts her hands on her hips, shrugging.
"Is this cool thing a fashion show?"
Matt chuckled.
"No, but you will feel cold."
Since she already had her stubborn nature, she didn't listen to him.
"no I'll not"
Matt snorted and didn't argue with her.
"So, miss stubborn, aren't you coming?"
Matt said, extending a hand to help her down the small hill that leads to the stable
"what a gentleman"
They arrived at the stable; it was dark until Matt turned on a light, and the insects began to be attracted to it. He walked to a stall, probably his horse's, which seemed ready to leave. He turned to it and asked
"Do you know how to ride?"
She thought for a moment, and then replied.
"My granpa taught me when I was little, I remember the basics."
Matt hummed and looked at some horses and went up to a white horse he seemed quite relaxed.
"This guy is the calmest one here, does you think you can go around freely?"
She looks at the horse, pets it, and nods to Matt. He smiles and goes to get a saddle and reins. He helped her put her things away and took the horse out of the stall.
"Wow, he's big"
"Big and harmless, he's very chill."
He replied, giving her the horse's reins to hold while he retrieved his horse.
"What's his name?"
Matt adjusts the last few things while answering her.
"Her name, this pretty mare here is Adele."
She gets on the horse that Matt took out for her.
"It suits her"
"ready?"
"yeah"
After riding for a while, they arrive at a place in the middle of the forest, with fewer trees and a view of the sky.
"Look up"
And when she looked? A beautiful starry sky, it looked like several galaxies completing each other, she thought it was incredible.
"wow thats.. insane"
"you liked it?"
Matt didn't even look at the stars, only at her reaction.
"yeah, thats beautiful"
he smiled
"yes it is"
While they watched the spectacular display of stars in the sky, Matt noticed how the girl was shivering; she was cold, as he said. He quickly took off his jacket and handed it to her.
"Take it, you look weird shivering, just put it on already."
It was a poor excuse to be kind without being an obvious fool for the girl he met today.
"Weird is you making excuses to be a gentleman."
