Today I have a rose for you that I grew in my previous garden in San Diego: William Shakespeare 2000. This gem was once very hyped by David Austin Roses as one of their most beautiful red roses and I agree, but only about a decade later it almost seems to be forgotten, a faith that sadly happens to many wonderful roses. In my opinion William Shakespeare 2000 deserves its place in the gardens of the world. The beauty of his large, velvety, crimson red (their color is a little darker than my camera was able to capture), very full, cupped, quartered blooms speaks for itself. On top of that, they also come with a lovely strong old rose fragrance. Do you remember William Shakespeare 2000? Do you grow one of these forgotten roses in your garden? Usually I am a fan of the very romantic and full cabbage or quartered roses, but the abundant sprays of blooms of the singles appeal to me as well. To be honest, there is hardly any rose that I don’t like! I am pretty certain that this is a Multiflora Rose, but I am not sure about the specific variety. Can someone of you dear rose lovers out there try to identify it for me? I ran into this beauty on a trip in England.
