Norsery Rhymes from A to Z Biaf (Bjar) The Hero and Kerti Well here we are another Thor’s Day and another 20 min sketch of a Norse (and Germanic, sometimes Celtic) mythological characters.  This week it’s Biaf, called Bjar (Bjarr) or Beaw, The Hero in/of the Alvissmal and Kerti, meaning alternately ‘the candle’ or ‘head held high’.  Named as one of the earthly Odin’s family, he’s said to have been a great hero.  His father was Skjold, and his Son Jat.  He is also considered a counterpart to Beowulf who in this mold fought in the winter King Athils. The Alvissmal is the tale where Thor challenges a very clever, but not clever enough dwarf Alvis to certain difficult feats in exchange for his daughters hand in marriage.  Biaf and Kerti are mentioned in his reciting of lists of heroes.

Basically what I’m saying is I couldn’t find a lot about him, beyond his being listed in a couple places.
