People who speculate on others' weight should be ashamed of themselves
no but like. . .it really is just so fucking depressing. it's *so* fucking depressing walking into the tags and the archives and seeing post and after post and narrative after narrative of the same damn Pen stan power fantasy of Colin on hands and knees for forgiveness. of how stupid he is. of how we want other people to swoop in for Penelope.
I love this character. That feels like a rarity in this fandom, but fuck it, I do. I love him. I love Colin. I love Colin's recklessness and his silliness and his honor and his hero complex. I love that he doesn't say the right thing and that he's all but howling for someone to hear him. I love how he makes friends with all the unconventional people and I love how he doesn't subscribe to the same narrative as all the other couples. I love him for all he is. For his mess ups and his triumphs.
And forget what the show will have happen, but what is *wrong* with us, that we can't muster up ANY empathy for him at all? Don't you remember being 20 and with no idea what you'll do with your life? Don't you remember being young and aimless and unsure? Are you always perfect with what you say? With knowing when other people are interested in you? Have you never hurt someone's feelings without meaning to? Have you never said something about someone behind their back who means so much to you in a moment of poor judgement?
Don't you deserve tenderness and understanding, too? Why are we so punitive with him? I understand angst, I understand drama, but I don't know how we can be here for any period of time and not hate what we've done to him? Hate what we've done to *them*?
Is anyone listening? Is anyone there?
Do you know? Do you even *understand* how shitty it is? To pour so much love into this couple and see nothing but us hating on him? To have him as a favorite and see people calling him stupid, useless, hoping other people make him feel like shit? Nowhere is safe for us. Even his own SHIP isn't safe for us. It's just wanting him to grovel and be humiliated and jealous and sad. Where's her pride in him? Their support for each other? Where's the encouragement? The tenderness? Why have we taken their love story, that was meant to be about being messy, making mistakes, and being loved regardless, through it all, and turned it into a 'You have to suffer to deserve love' narrative, instead? Into having to be on hands and knees begging for care? Why is it everywhere? Why is there nowhere to go that isn't permeated with it? And why are WE the weirdos for loving him? Why are we the ones who need to suck it up and shut up? Why are we the ones getting bullied by other members of our ship? IT'S HIS SHIP.
What have we turned them into?
Colin is one of the best love leads in the entire series. THE best male love lead. No, I will not change my mind. And yes, I wholeheartedly believe it. Because I LOVE this couple. I love this couple so damn much. And every time I walk into these archives, I feel like some weirdo because everyone is salivating over the same Puritanical 'MAKE HIM SUFFER' shit and there's NOWHERE to go. There is never anywhere to go.
Why don't we love him more? Colin is fantastic. And doesn't Penelope deserve a fantastic partner? Doesn't Colin deserve a partner who strives to understand him?
Is the shape of our ultimate love story really one that's drawn facedown in the dirt?
so...i finished season 1
WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT????
A dark thought not prompt, how do you think things would have changed if it came to light that the Wens had essentially been forced by WR to go to war? Like, for example, he was holding their kids hostage and if they didn’t fight, said kids would be tortured to death. What if the Nie clan or WWX found out that given the choice, the Wens wouldn’t be fighting, they’d have deposed WR years ago. It’s just hard to stand against someone who’ll take your helpless loved ones & make them beg for death.
Mmm, I don’t know - that seems so highly implausible to me that I can’t even really begin to grapple with it. Even putting aside the ethics of it, just logistically, the amount of people you would need to be holding hostage would require a large number of guards, who would all have to be amoral/loyal enough to agree to hold a bunch of kids hostage, and the amount of cultivators whose children were taken away would, by definition, outnumber those holding their children, so it would be easier to just...fight back and rescue your kids?
Also, lots of soldiers don’t want to go to war, but they do it anyway. If they represent a violent and evil regime, it doesn’t matter why they did it; it doesn’t make the people fighting against them any less just or righteous?? I mean, what’s even the point of finding out that sort of “secret” - does it make the Cloud Recesses any less burned down? does it make the Jiang sect any less dead? Should the Nie sect feel bad about defending their homes simply because the other side was secretly under duress?
I guess my question is - what’s the purpose of such a scenario? If it’s to try to excuse the Wens for their behavior, it doesn’t work: legally speaking, there is no “duress” defense to murder. Period. It doesn’t matter if someone is holding a gun to your child, you cannot commit a murder. If it’s to try to create guilt among the victorious sects...why? They defended their homes and fought a just war; there is nothing that they should feel bad about.
Like. Honestly? In the end - every single “evil” war has that situation??? There will always be soldiers who committed atrocities who say “but if I didn’t murder those innocent people on behalf of the unjust regime, then the unjust regime might have punished me & mine instead!” and, like...that’s not an excuse. It’s not anywhere near an excuse.
I’ve been scarce online for a lot of reasons, mostly holiday exhaustion, partly depression, and partly trying to wait out the VLD S8 posts (of any kind). But the continued bad Lotor takes are all the encouragement that I need to peace on out of here. I blame the writing and not the fans for the widely diverging takes, even though some of them are completely incomprehensible and illogical to me. Not even haters or antis. I have zero time or interest in debating any take because none of it matters and there is no point to it. Unfortunately it takes up time/energy to mentally shut it out when I only want to enjoy something that used to be fun before it was ruined.
wait, i just need to confirm if i actually got what happened with the lost ending: the sideways universe of lost's 6th season was indeed the afterlife but the general audience took it as a hint to explain that everything that happened on the island was just hell and they were "dead all along"?
uhm, i guess so. i gather that many people were confused by the lost finale. it doesn’t help that lost isn’t easy to take in week by week and remember everything, so the audience got easily confused. it’s a better on DVD show. you gotta binge that shit in a short period of time to keep track of what’s going on
nonetheless, christian explains whats going on to jack in the church and i guess a lot of people didn’t get it. lost’s depiction of the afterlife is kinda different than how afterlifes are normally depicted in shows so that doesn’t help. plus lost thrives on non-linear storytelling. so yeah a buncha ppl got the wrong idea
this idea was spread around so much that even people who don’t watch the show sometimes think that lost is the show where they were dead all along
and they weren’t
so basically, this is the only time in LOST where this sentence applies: listen to christian shephard, people, he knows what he’s talking about
Can some people please do me a favour? Stop hating ships. Mind your own business. If you don't like a ship, fine but let the people ship their ships.
Guys,
Do we really not remember 2016? Do we really not remember the "early, positive" reviews for both BvS and SS? I remember. Are you all that desperate to believe that these early reviews for Wonder Woman mean anything? Instead of congratulating yourselves prematurely, why not wait for the reviews to actually come out? Because I remember last year and I'm prepared to defend; I won't be caught unaware. I suggest you all do the same.
