Today is yet another dark day for many of us in the so-called United States of America. I've been stewing over what I should say over here (I've been quite vocal over on Twitter all day). There's not much else to say but the fight isn't over.
Our country is dealing with A LOT of shit during an ONGOING pandemic, yet our unelected Supreme Court would rather overturn #RoeVWade. They have spent all week stripping away our rights (Miranda, amongst others).
This has been 50 years in the making. These evangelical Christians are determined to take all our hard won gains from us. Same sex marriage, contraceptives, interracial marriage, it's all on the table, and more. They've made it harder to vote. This is by design.
We have to be vigilant.
I live in a state that currently allows abortions even with Roe being overturned but nothing is guaranteed. I'm worried about ripple effects in other countries. I'm worried about people being forced to carry an unwanted child to term. I'm worried about people being forced to carry an unviable fetus, even at the risk of the mother's health. This WILL kill people. Make no mistake. Abortions WILL continue to happen. But with desperation comes hazards and shady opportunists.
Instead of focusing on Universal Health Care, Universal Child Care, this is what our politicians prioritize. We could have codified Roe decades ago.
