If you think about it. The beckoning as written has a lot of fucked up orientalist connotations. Like, the elders are being summoned away to a war fought by their ancestors. Sure. But they had to backpedal from the whole "they're being summoned to the middle east" and then just kinda... didn't clarify what it meant for the gehenna war to be a global phenomenon. It's conceit as a narrative device relies solely on the elders vanishing into the savage desert and all that shit. It's just lazy writing amd we can do so much better.
It could be so interesting to have elders beckoned to strange places to fulfill some strange piece of a methuselah's goal. Just somebody stupidly powerful appearing one night in small town Alabama half delirious from the beckoning and believing that their sole purpose is to watch over the gas station and cast an esoteric amd seemingly nonsensical spell if they ever see a baby blue '68 El Camino pass through
Like. Get rid of the awful "disappear into the east" nonsense and do something interesting and appropriately alien with it.
