1 When I call, answer me, O God of my integrity! Deliver me from my distress! Have mercy on me and hear my prayer. 2 O men, how long will you try to destroy my dignity? How long will you assault me with lust and continue to live a lie? 3 Know that God protects Her daughters! She hears when I call out for help! 4 Stop sinning, and repent with fear and trembling. Consult the depths of your own hearts in sacred silence. 5 Offer to God the sacrifices of integrity and respect for all. 6 Many women say, "Who can do us any good?" Let the light of Your face shine upon us, O God. 7 You fill my heart with a joy that is greater than the pleasure of those stuffed with the best food and drink. 8 In peace I will lie down and sleep. For in You, Shaddai, I dwell in safety.

Possible uses of this psalm:

Alleviate insomnia (read along with a short prayer before bed)

Justice in court cases (read psalm several times by a blue candle and John the Conqueror Incense the night before a court appearance)

Restful and peaceful sleep

Change luck from bad to good

Prayer of praise and gratitude (v6-7)

Prayer for protection (v3,8)

Request blessings (v6-7)

If I Die Before I Wake

I hope St. Peter feeds me cake, 

I pray that heaven is a place, a lot like home, in outer space,

I hope my Grandma meets me there, I hope she still has short white hair,

If I die before I wake, I have some things for you to take,

for you and you and you and you, 

you get this and you get that, and I’ll get cake and really fat

and then one day we’ll meet again, in Jesus name I pray, amen.

1 O God, my enemies multiply in number. So many keep coming against me! 2 They scornfully say, "God will never save her!" 3 But You, O God, are my wall of protection. I glory in You, and in Your strength hold my head high. 4 I cry loudly to You, and You answer me. 5 I lie down and sleep in safety. You keep watch over me until I wake again. 6 In spite of the violent people who surround me, I am not afraid, nor faint-hearted. 7 I know that You will rise up and save me, breaking the power of violence. 8 Salvation belongs to You, Shaddai! Your blessing abides with Your people.

Possible uses of this psalm:

Conquer all fears (read psalm by a red candle, focusing especially on verse 3)

Have a peaceful, safe, and rewarding day (repeat each morning, saying before and after "God, grant me a sympathetic heart, gentle words, and ready hands that I might help my neighbor in need. Amen.")

Relief from severe headache or back pain (don't use in place of conventional medical care)

Prayer for protection

If I Die Before I Wake - Faith Versus Doubt

Bedtime prayers should not build an expectation that you might die before you wake up. Pray God's Word instead of religious tradition.

God’s Too Busy

1910: Among those taken to see the funeral of Edward VII was Lord Kinnoull’s young daughter. That evening, at bedtime, the girl’s mother asked her whether she had said her prayers. She hadn’t.

“Why not?”

“I don’t mean to say them to-night.”

“Why not?”

“Well, because it won’t be any use, as God will be too busy unpacking King Edward.”
