Queen of Clubs: Beef Punchly
AMERICA'S BEEF PUNCHLY, FOLKS. Fight him in his prime!
Surprisingly, finding the body reference was not hard. I looked through pictures of different pro wrestlers and weight lifters looking for men who were big but didn't have sculpted muscles (meaty but no washboard abs). I ended up with Mark Henry, who was the perfect reference.
The skin tone and hair color gave me SUCH a hard time. I ended up unlocking the hair when I added the greying temples and the skin tone when I added some tinted texture, taking inspiration from the texture sponge in theatrical makeup.
Beef has two full tattoo sleeves in canon, and this is important to me. Within it are a lot of flowers, some playing cards, and references to the other campaigns if you look closely.
For the tank top, I liked the look best when I played with a plain or striped red or yellow, but I think this fits the Ustaben aesthetic much more and makes sense as his uniform. I tried putting him in a button down with the sleeves rolled up, but he turned into a friendly farm hand. Which is fine. He grew up on a farm, but it just wasn't what I was going for.
I also ended up with a mental image of his parents, so I may draw baby Beef at some point.
My second tourism poster for TAZ Steeplechase! It was a little challenging finding the middle ground between the bright cheery childhood nostalgia vibe that Ustaben canonically has, and the blacklight cosmic bowling vibe I’ve permanently headcanon’d it as. But I’m happy with how this one turned out!
HGGGGGG I’m so excited to see your steeplechase designs eventually maybe they are the variety of freaks that would fit your style so well!!!!!
