May I tell you about the multiverse?
Imagine you had a choice just back then, when I asked you that question. Imagine, you could have decided not to keep reading, and instead just skipped this post entirely. That’s the essence of multiverse. Everytime you make a choice, everytime anyone makes a choice, deliberate or not, the universe multiplies. When you clicked to keep reading, two distinct universes came to being: the one you’re living in, and the one where you’re not, where no click was made.
Of course, by now, countless of choices have been made since. There are countless of you, the one singular you, reading this, while countless have already stopped and yet more never started. You’ve probably heard the universe is big, but the order of magnitude of the multiverse doesn’t really even compare.
And because these choices can happen anywhere, in dfferent stars altogether even, most of the universes close to you look and feel identical to this one. You could step into another one any moment in your life and never notice it. You could be thrown from one universe to another every minute, exchanging places with other yous in other places. You know you’re still in one of the universes where you started reading this post, but is it the same one you were a few lines back?
Now think back: have you ever been certain about something, have you ever witnessed an event, only to later learn, it never happened? That it couldn’t have happened? That’s the multiverse playing with you.
