chocolate beet cake with blood orange frosting
The beet cake. HOW IS IT?? I GOTTA KNOW
THE PINK WENT AWAY :( I did not consider the power of heat in this circumstance...
(yes this photo is shakey as hell, don't judge me) Texture and flavor-wise, it's giving me Shipley's chocolate cake donut. It's very dense and moist, but honestly a little bland. I wish I had doubled the cocoa powder to 2/3 a cup and dropped two tablespoons of espresso powder in here. I think I'd personally swap the baking soda for baking powder too since this is teetering on the edge between "dense" and "gummy." Out of curiosity, I dropped a big chunk of this onto my plate from about six inches up to see if it'd bounce, and it solidly badoomped up two inches and popped off the plate. So make of that metric what you will. Truth be told, I'm not mad at it, but I also probably wouldn't make it again. But overall, not fucking bad. And hallelujah, it does not taste like goddamn beets.
