I’ve been thinking about beetle knights since your post on them, it’s all your fault… I wanna be a prince with a bunch of bug knights so bad.. yes, impress me with your strength and your wing displays beetle boy… it makes me think about the harpy boyfriends you wrote that’d try to impress you with colourful feathers… pitching a crow harpy guy that would bring his boyfriend shiny little trinkets, let me preen you harpy man… combine ‘em and be a prince with a bunch of monster subjects… these are my beetle knights and my harpy consorts or something… my wereanimal blacksmiths…
I love bug knights, please talk to me about bug knights, I love them so much...
You know what I've been thinking about lately? Centipedes, and what part of the royal system they would be. Are they knights too? Do they use flails or maces? Or one of those chain morningstars?
Do all your bug knights try their hardest to show off how strong they are? Flexing their different body parts and creating grand displays? Do they realize you don't fully understand their intention, because poor humans can't smell the absolute stench of pheromones they are throwing around?
Maybe as all the larger bug and centipede knights are duking it out to try and see who gets to court you first, one of the squires, a silverfish knight who doesn't even fill out his own armor yet because its all made for the massive beetle bodies, sneaks off to your chambers.
Or maybe your personal jester, a jumping spider monster will show you how useful having multiple arms are. And being a bragging prick, your jester fucks you in perfect view of your tower window, leaving the blinds open so your frustrated knights can hear you moan.
Perhaps the neighboring kingdom has been wanting to build good relations, so their ruler, a handsome peacock harpy, has sent some of his own knights to serve under you. In return you have sent some of your own knights, kind of like a cultural exchange.
They had honestly expected another bug to be ruling them. How could they not? Most of the kingdom is insect monsters or similar. They weren't sure what they expected, an ant monster maybe? A scarab maybe? Instead, they find you. Pretty human you, no exoskeleton or anything. Your knights are all flaring their mandibles and clicking though, telling them to stay back.
They doesn't stop them from showing off too, how could they not? You are so cute and pretty, and you always look so excited and interested when they show off their feathers and displays. Doesn't take them long to realize you are... not that smart. At least when it comes to recognizing displays. But they don't blame you, humans are just such simple creatures after all.
The harpies start leaving their feathers woven into your stuff, claiming it's to color up the place a little. Your beetle and insect knights always tear it down, and then throw the harpies around extra hard in the training yard.
Your personal advisor, a handsome orchid mantis monster, can only mourn as he reads the letters from the ocean kingdom and werebeast kingdom, wanting to do cultural exchanges too, having heard it all from the harpy king.
Who knows, maybe you'll end up with multiple husbands, and you guys will unite your kingdoms into one. And you? You get railed and pampered every night, what more could you want.
