Something that occurs to me is that a large problem Ed might have pre-Stede is that he's always 'on' as Blackbeard. Yes, he's annoyed by the lack of chaos, drama, fucking life; that just being Blackbeard entails- but he also never gets a break from it. He's always the boss, always the one in charge, and it may be slightly different with Izzy now and then, but Izzy's own pride is going to keep that distance and Ed is, in some ways, always ready to perform.

And when Izzy says he's handled Ed's moods, I have to wonder just how well he managed to handle them since Izzy is not what you would call emotionally intelligent.
