I’ve been noticing perspective a lot this month. . As in, practicing slowing way down when talking with someone and hearing not only the words that they say, but also trying to hear what’s behind those words. Where the person is coming from. What condition might they be in that might be affecting them and what they’re saying. . Am I hearing what someone is saying clearly, or am I filtering it though my own perspective? . In any type of relationship we might be in with other people, being able to “take a step back” while we’re engaging with someone else and not only hear the other person’s words but also try to discern where they’re coming from is very important. More important is that we notice our own perspective. This can not only change the outcome of a conversation, but it can also dramatically change the nature of the relationship. If we practice showing up and being clear and honest with ourselves, we’ll naturally be more clear and honest with other people. It can also make someone else feel more at ease and and secure and allow them the opportunity to show up also. . And bang. Ya got a more honest conversation. . This kind of thing is really fundamental to success in any kind of relationship, but it always begins with ourselves.
