easy ways to save the planet

a recent passion of mine has been reducing my waste in an effort to stop destroying the planet. it's hard and can be expensive, but here are some simple, easy tips.

** keep in mind not everyone can do these things. Some people need straws or disposable medical stuff or other disposable things, and that’s more than okay! do whatever you can and be considerate of those who cannot***

stop sucking: say no to straws! the ocean is full of plastic straws killing numerous sea creatures daily. personally, i find straws unnecessary and choose to say no, however there are many eco friendly alternatives.

eco option: stainless steel straws, glass straws, bamboo straws

bleed better: this one goes out to my mensturating folks who spend so much money on period products just to throw them out. there are some amazing reusable options out there to manage your period and save you money.

eco option: menstrual cups (Lena cups have an amazing return policy - perfect for first time users), period panties, reusable pads

paper or plastic? reusable: use reusable bags or no bag! as a cashier we're told to bag every purchase, but we much prefer customers to bring reusable bags or no bag (its easier and the sheer quantity of bags used in a day is insane). also you have to pay for them in some places which is annoying.

eco option: reusable bags! could be the ones grocery stores sell, or a fun canvas bag you decorated, or those cool bags that fold up really tiny so you can always have it with you.

snack like a eco friendly queen: use reusable snack bags instead of ziplock bags. not only will you save money in the long run but they look fun and yay saving the planet. 

eco option: chicobags (reusable snack bags) are pretty great for small snacks like goldfish. you can also use beeswax wraps for more solid food like cut apples or cucumbers or whatever you like.

kut up ur kcups: kcups create soooo much unnecessary waste in favor of convinence. better options exist!

eco option: reusable kcups!! all you have to do is scoop your powdered coffee into the cup and pop it in your keurig or other coffee maker
