I'm thinking about writing a novel where the FBI asks a few serial killers to help on an investigation. Is that possible? Or is it against the law?

When the FBI was setting up the Behavioral Science Unit in the 70s, they interviewed various killers to try to understand what drove them to kill. They interviewed killers like Charles Manson, Edward Kemper, Richard Speck, and John Wayne Gacy. There is precedent, so I think your idea is possible but there should also be strict guidelines about what kind of information is shared. For instance, I think that none of the victims names should be shared or any personal details that aren’t part of the case.
