Fixing the ADHD Brain
The ADHD brain may not need to be fixed, but instead appreciated for what it can do. It can hyper focus on a task for a long period of time. It can organize an otherwise disorganized and unrecognizable set of relationships. And, there are times that our ADHD brain is so disruptive that it may need to be fixed. But, please, don't think you're a box of rocks and don't have what it takes to be the next Einstien, Feinmann, or Stephen Hawkings, you do. You just have to pay attention, and be observant. Because, in the middle of your ADHD, you might see something that the rest of us have missed, even about ADHD, and when you share it, it will profoundly change the way we see ADHD or any other topic you see this incite into.
We, as humons, have the technology to do this. Look at the genetically modified twins that are supposedly HIV resistant. It's a great milestone for humons, but it also raises the specter of eugenics. The perfect person contains only these characteristics, to which every scifi show has touch on at some point. The most memoriable being GATTACA.
But, why don't we fix the humon brain, if we know that ADHD is a genetic disorder? Its the same reason why we don't treat most genetic diseases, unless the person is going to be a vegitable for their short life. No one knows what wonders that person will unlock, even in their state.
We think of Albert Einstein, a genius in his own right, as the perfect person to be a genius. But, look at Stephen Hawking. He was also a genius. The different was their body faculties were severally differentiated due to who needed assistance living. Einstein would get into such deep thoughts while out walking, he had to have a people walk with him to help him avoid getting hit when he crossed the road. Where as, Stephen Hawkings needed people to just help me go to the bathroom and eat.
Thus, no one's potential is set in stone. You may have the worst ADHD experience imaginable, but you may also have an incite into a very particular field of study that no one else has, that unlocks years worth of study with a single sentence or expression. [ E = m * c^2 ] Or Leadership is .. Guiding Intent with Integrity ..
Dr. Fienmann, a renounded professor in physics, stated that a genius doesn't come up with their epiphanies every day. No, they have lots of ideas swirling in their head that they are working on every single day. And, when something new comes along, they apply it to their ideas. If something clicks, then they publish their idea. And, just like that, they win Nobel Prizes.
Let me give you an example of an ordinary women who did something I consider to be extordinary. She was a maide and wanted to travel the world. She attended a lecture where the professor talked about his travels. After the lecture she approached him and asked how she could be like him.
He asked, "What do you do?" "I peal potatoes at the bottom on the cellar steps." "What is below you feet? when you peel potatoes?" "A stone." "And, what's below that?" "An ant farm." "I want you to describe in as great of detail as you can those ants, and bring me your findings."
So, she went back to work and began the work of describing the ants in exquisite detail. She took her findings to the professor who published them, and sent her to other locations to continue her research. And, in time, she traveled the world.

But, please, don't think you're a box of rocks and don't have what it takes to be the next Einstien, Feinmann, or Stephen Hawkings, you do. You just have to pay attention, and be observant. Becuase, in the middle of your ADHD, you might see something that the rest of us have missed, even about ADHD, and when you share it, it will profoundly change the way we see ADHD or any other topic you see this incite into.
The best thing about my meanderings about Capitol Hill is that it’s a fantastic opportunity to think.
And to see things.
And to get ideas.
And to be surprised.
Sometimes all at once.
I’m about to go into editing on the fourth BrainWorks episode, this one titled “Sleep and the Brain”.
My challenge right off the bat? I didn’t get the chance to shoot all the piece I need for the script as written... but I did capture enough pieces during our two day shoot to do something interesting.
The question is What.
And these walks allow my brain the chance to sift through all these random pieces of picture and sound; arrangements, rearrangements, and juxtapositions; options, possibilities, and alternate realities.
So my brain sifts all these bits. Constructs different pictures from the same puzzle pieces. Which is exciting.
Beyond all that, it’s lovely to have the time to just think. And to consider.
Our lives, after all, continues to be a work in progress that can assume many forms. Arranged, rearranged, and juxtaposed in many intriguing ways. There are options, possibilities, and very much alternate realities.
What path to take, then? And how?
And when?
Anyway.
My point is only that the luxury of time to think... is a gift. One to which we should avail ourselves as often as humanly possible.
If only because our brains work best that way.
:-)
I observe everything. but I don't react

Being Observant
Last week Keith found a really pretty glass gazing ball (kind of like this one here) that he wanted to put in our garden out front. And I decided I wanted to get a couple of pictures of it during the daylight since it was such a pretty blue color.

But as I took that first picture, I noticed something move at the base of the concrete planters. Do you see what I see in the picture…

I hate how I look at every single tiny detail....I hate how with a person I'll look at all their gestures and or actions or emotions on their face, how they wrinkle their nose or eyebrows, and even the tone in their voice and at the same time look at their eyes...i hate how one tiny little gesture or action can ruin my whole day....
How to wear Khakis and tennis shoes:
Don't.
My friend E and I were out with 2 other friends and E saw one of her friends leaving Starbucks. The girl was wearing a hijab. E shouted "Aren't you hot in that?" I wanted to facepalm so bad. I KNOW E wasn't talking about her hijab, she was talking about her long ass skirt. E isn't ignorant like that. Her friend gave E this offended and pissed off look and said, "No." After she left, I told E that her friend probably thought she was talking about her hijab. She started panicking, "I didn't mean that at all! I feel so bad!" It's funny how things like that work out.
