Too Much, Too Often

The alarm goes off and it already feels like I'm behind like the day started without me and I'm just trying to catch up

Coffee doesn't wake me it just reminds me I have to be awake

The sink is full again the laundry multiplies in the dark emails stack like accusations I haven't earned the right to ignore

everything is small and everything is heavy

a missed call a bill a text I don't know how to answer

None of this should matter this much but it does

It builds

Quietly steadily like water pressing against a door I'm pretending will hold

People say "just take it one thing at a time"

But things don't line up they come all at once talking over each other until I can't hear my own thoughts

I forget what I was doing while I'm doing it

Stand in rooms with no reason why

And even rest feels like failure like I'm falling further behind by stopping

So I keep moving not forward just…moving

Hoping motion counts for something

Hoping no one notices how close I am to dropping everything

To letting the door break

And watching it all come through

The strange psychology of stress and burnout

Stress can have positive power in your life. But at a certain point, it all goes bad.

since I left therapy, i’ve felt like crying and I wonder if I must have jogged something loose up there in my head

Terrance and Henry are brothers, but ItA happens when, Terrance is still the leader. Henry doesn’t know Terrance is a Toppat, he just knows that his big brother he’s in a criminal organization that requires him to travel a lot.

Captain Galeforce kept talking, but honestly Henry stopped listening after being told the leader of the Toppat Clan was none other then his brother. Terrence had been there for him ever since their dad went missing, helping him with school and making sure he was taken care of. Terrence had never judged Henry on being slightly different from everyone else and Henry looked up to Terrence.

And now Henry was being pressured and forced to capture his big brother, to put him away or Henry would be sent away to a maximum security prison for his failure. Henry felt so overwhelmed as he was forced in some ball, he didn't know what he would say or even do.

Everything just got worse, Henry felt himself being launched into the giant Airship, he heard several alarms going off, yelling from the Airship and that Captain yelling in his ear piece. Henry couldn't move, he couldn't think, everything was just becoming too much.

Then Henry felt a very familiar hug as he looked up to see Terrence, just holding him as tight as he can. Henry felt exhaustion kick in as Terrence let him know that it would be ok, that those Government dogs are being dealt with now.

Terrence got Henry into his room as Henry explained everything, how he went to bed in his apartment and woke up in a helicopter and told to go after his only family or else. Terrence let his brother know that he would be safe with the clan, that he was never going to be hurt like that again.

Henry got used to being a Toppat and his big brother being leader. Henry stayed out of the frontlines, knowing that he couldn't handle the stress. But one good thing about the clan was that nobody judged Henry for being slightly different and he was treated the same.

In a way Henry was really home.

Henry had his mission, and although it pained him to do it, it pained Henry more that Terrence was keeping secrets from him. What else was his big brother hiding from him.

Henry used that fuel to bring down his own brother and hand him off to that Captain. And as Henry turned around at his brother one last time, there wasn't a face of fury or anger on Terrence's face, just the face of sadness before looking at Henry and giving him a smile as he simply mouthed "I forgive you."

Henry felt his heart hurt, after capturing his older brother for his own safety, Terrence held no hard feeling for him. Henry felt the tears start falling as the helicopter flew further and further away.

Sure Henry was free, but at what cost?

As soon as Henry saw that Ruby in his vision, all other thoughts turned off. Henry had to have the giant glistening Ruby.

After abit of work, Henry found himself in an entire room full of treasures, golds, rings, and other treasures beckoned for Henry. Henry found him almost overwhelmed by everything shiny, but got focused on the task at hand.

Henry was able to get the Ruby and safely get out of the Airship, happily taking it home with him. Henry was a happy little crow, until he got home and he saw Terrence sitting on their sofa with the Tunisian Diamond.

Henry explained everything, still holding on to the ruby as Terrence just had the wildest bemused face. He sure was his younger brother. Terrence struck up a deal, he give back the ruby and diamond to the Toppat clan and Terrence will let him join the clan, letting him have access to seeing any sort of treasure at anytime.

Henry agreed and Terrence ruffled Henry's hair as he offered to buy dinner. Terrence did call Reginald though and told him to be careful out there, that the Government had their number. It was only by sheer luck that the Government chose poorly for their mission.

I live with a kid that literally talks non stop. From the time he wakes up to the time he goes to bed, that mouth is running. It's really taxing on my mental health. Do you have any idea of what's wrong with me, or what I can do to help with the stress?

He’s developing. He’s learning. Remind yourself that this is part of the process for him to grow and nurture his brain and social skills. You can also use this as a means to instill in him good values and abilities, like thinking things out, being kind, or questioning unfairness.

Of course, after a while, it can be taxing. Kids are like the universe in that they are endlessly expanding and thus can... keep going and going for a while into emptiness, and you yourself have other things to do. Your universe is already pretty full of tasks and he’s just out there grasping and bouncing carefree for new things with all this time and space to do whatever he wants, essentially.

And he can’t understand how you don’t have that. It can be hard to make him understand too, depending on his age. You can try to explain you have other stuff to do and can’t indulge him right now. Sometimes they DO get it and seek out another trusted older person for their activities, questions, and stories.

But sometimes you can still hear him going on and on and it still drives you nuts even if it’s not directed at you.

That’s called being overwhelmed. When little things like that get you agitated and freaked out, that’s a sign you’re at your limit.

There may be mental health issues at the bottom of it - for example, my autism and other problems make it very difficult for me to handle kids for extended periods, and depression and anxiety often makes us very irritable with low tolerance for nonsense - or it could just be you’re having a hellish time at the moment and can’t take much more on your plate. Depending on which source it is, is where you direct your energy to “fix” your problem.

Redirect the child to something else, of course, but also tackle your source problem. Have you been working a lot? Try to find a way to “deflate” from all that work strain (like through yoga, hot baths, a walk, whatever would give you peace). Are you feeling depressed? Try seeking out what’s making you feel down, or speak with your doctor if this is a recurring problem. Is it just a neuro issue going haywire? Find ways to divert that, such as through stimming or other coping techniques.

Nothing’s wrong with you. Kids can be a lot to deal with, especially right now with all the other things going on. Kids have various stages where they are grating on your nerves. It’s okay. Just remember that they’re going through a developmental moment and you have tools to help you and them through it.
