So, I remember reading all these articles and blogposts about how frustrating it is to be a female in a leadership position, thinking that it’s totally ridiculous, the women must just be crazy. Holy jeebus. I understand now. Yes, we have turned crazy. Crazy after not being heard or taken seriously.
No matter how good of a relationship you may have with your coworkers, no matter how sternly or nicely or whatever goddamn way you say things, people will always see you as being demanding and bossy.
I have tried SO many different approaches, SO many different techniques, only to lead to the same result. If my boss (who is male, and also oversees the department) said the EXACT same thing, nobody would bat an eye and everyone would agree because he has the authority and the “boss” attitude to go with him. If I am to say it, I am seen as being bossy. Not a boss. Bossy.
Working in an all male environment is not fucking fun. Bothers the hell out of me when I’m not taken seriously. Bothers the fuck out of me when I am looked at as the weaker, inept leader. I’m infuriated that this behaviour has been ingrained in their brains to think this is normal. No, it’s not. You’re just ignorant and want to put your ego first before allowing for a female to tell you even the SLIGHTEST bit of criticism vs. the appreciation you always want.
