The Importance of Being Kind to Yourself
When there’s an unfortunate event or chapter in your life, it’s easy to neglect all the good days. Negativity is powerful. It consumes your positive energy, and it drives you to think that your life is useless and that you’re an unlucky person. When you’re doing good and then suddenly something bad happens, the negativity you feel will eat up all the nice things that happened to you, and that is because, again, negativity is powerful.
The feeling of being stuck in our homes feels like forever. As days go by, we fail to see changes and hope that we’ll be able to be free someday. During these trying times, it’s so hard to be positive because a lot of things just happens. The frustration is nonstop and everything is just messing up with our heads.
And when these things happen, we forget about ourselves.
The importance of being kind to yourself is as important as finishing your degree —if it is important to you. Remember that a car cannot run without gasoline unless you’re planning to push it all the way to your destination, which is hard. What I am trying to say is that you cannot bring out your best if being kind to yourself is something that you always fail to do. Whether you’re ready to hear this or not, no one can help you but yourself. No one is responsible for your welfare but yourself. Even your best friend is not responsible to make you feel better. Do not deprive yourself of the good things. You owe them to yourself. You deserve them.
“It’s easier said than done.”
“You only say these things because you don’t feel what I feel.”
“It’s easy for you to say these things because you’re not going through something.”
Believe it or not, I myself am going through something heavier than you think, but this whole article is not about me but you. The reason why being kind to yourself is important is because it is the only way to let yourself breathe. Imagine the effects of thinking about nothing but the approaching deadlines, the things you have to finish before the sun sets, and the demands of everyone around you. If the only things that matter to you are other people but yourself, you’re on your way to a place no one likes.
When you’re tired, get some rest. When you’re drained, forget about the deadlines for a moment and do something you love. When you’re just done with the world, give time to focus on yourself. You can go for a walk, take yourself out on a date, watch the sunset, listen to your favorite song, do your hobbies, buy yourself flowers, or drink your third cup of coffee. Again, you owe all the good things to yourself. Do not deprive yourself of happiness and fulfillment.
And you? You have been waiting for so long, and waiting for another second is the last thing you need.
Do not even think for a minute and ask yourself if you deserve it because you do. You definitely deserve all the good things this world can offer. Your worth will never change on the days where you spent the whole day doing nothing and the days where you accomplished lots of things. Your worth is not measured by your productivity. You’re the same warrior fighting your own battles every single day.
Listen to yourself and rest.
Again, the world can wait.
