Being Professional Online
After reading through Erik Qualman’s book, “What Happens on Campus Stays on YouTube, I have found a better understanding on how to promote myself as professional as I can. A quote that has really stuck with me from Qualman’s book is, “ Being ‘FLAWsome’ is admitting that you aren’t perfect.” I really enjoy this phrase because it is true, you don’t have to have everything going right to be doing well in your field. Everyone is going to have flaws. I do think that it is important that we don’t post or share items that we will regret. In this day-in-age, so many companies actually search through your Facebook or instagram to see how you act and how professional you are. Also, for me, I rodeo, so it is very important that I don’t let my sponsors or any potential sponsors down buy posting something that will hinder my relationship with them. You don’t want to post any thing embarrassing. “Social media has become such a natural part of people’s lives that you may not appreciate that you’re not just sharing with friends and family – potential employers can check you out too.”
