there is a dichotomy at play here. there probably always has been. even before dani had joined the team, he believes there was always meant to be a space in the greyhounds for him to fill. jamie is jamie and dani is dani, and they were probably always meant to be one complimentary ace to the other. “balance is good, yes.” he punctuates this sentence with a nod of his head before he elaborates. “but perhaps you should try being on the other side of it for once. i will try to be inappropriate in your place.” dani squares his shoulders, as if preparing for a fight, and then drops a line that could conceivably come out of jamie's mouth, “areshole.”
Jamie owes a lot to Dani, even if Dani doesn't know that that's the case. If Dani hadn't been injured as soon as he transferred to Richmond, Jamie wouldn't have been loaned to Richmond by City - the Greyhounds wouldn't have been in need of a striker, after all. And if Dani hadn't been injured, Jamie wouldn't have been given the 9 shirt by Cartrick (honestly, Dani should've been given the 9, even if he was injured - Dani was a permanent player, and Jamie only a loanee, the only reason he'd been given the 9 was because George Cartrick was a shit gaffer and a shit man with no loyalty to his own players, but Jamie's pride would never let him admit that). Then, if it weren't for Dani, Ted would've had no excuse to have their little sacrifice show and tell bullshit where Jamie opened up to the team about his prick dad - the first time he'd ever opened up to anyone about it in his life, even if he hadn't gone into all the gory details. So, Jamie supposes, he has a lot to thank for Dani's knee injury. And he has even more to thank now that the injury wasn't career-ending. Dani's an amazing player, Jamie's lucky to have him to pass to on the pitch; he's a real ace at the sport, and any team would be lucky to have him on their roster, including Man City and fucking West Ham. But Dani was loyal, Dani stuck around, and Jamie had been lucky to get to know him in the two years they'd been playing together. Cause Dani makes him laugh, just as he did just now with his impression of Jamie. It reminds Jamie of mere weeks ago, when they were learning total football, and Dani was Isaac, and Isaac was Dani, and Jamie was... well, Jamie. He didn't get the chance to do the voices then. He'll take the opportunity now. "Oh, guess that makes me you, then, don't it?" he asks, a grin tugging at the corners of his lips. "Fútbol is life," Jamie tries to mimic Dani's accent, failing miserably as he can't seem to rid himself of his Mancunian tongue, but he laughs anyways. "Did you ever get to see your tulip, mate? Sorry I weren't around, I would'a found you one."
