Pokédex Update:
Bellboyant - the elegant bell Pokémon. A dark type. In ancient times, Bellboyant was abundant in a far off kingdom and thrived in desert oases. These beautiful and highly favored pokémon took part in intricate dances and musical rituals that were once believed to bring rain in times of drought. Due to the gold ingot on its head, historians and archeologists have thought Bellboyant to be an ancestor of the pokémon Meowth.
Notes:
- The whiskers under Bellboyant's jaw are actually quite dense and act akin to tuning forks, allowing Bellboyant to interact with waves of sound as well as control those that are made with its tail bell, converting them into attacks. Bellboyant will often tap objects around its territory with its whiskers as a learned habit to map and navigate trickier locations in the dark so they can sneak up on prey and enemies.
- When it comes into contact with an excess of water, Bellboyant temporarily gains the secondary Water typing and the yellow bands above its paws inflate, which allows it to swim if necessary. The bands also act as counterweights to the gold ingot on its head to prevent the pokémon from sinking and drowning. Bellboyant's ability to use soundwaves as attacks are amplified underwater, and the resulting shockwaves can be lethal if its opponent is in close proximity.
- While it's water-typing is active Bellboyant can use a weather move called "Rainy Day", a curious ability that later became the weaker derivative modernly known as "Rain Dance." This long lost move was said to make it rain all day long even after the pokémon was defeated in battle.
- It is unknown how or if this pokémon went extinct. It is said through rumors that the soft and alluring chime of its tail bell can still be heard in the ruins of temples and pyramids, as well as underground aquifers in their homeland. There was also a sighting of this pokémon at Mount Quena in the Johto region, but the instance was not officially recorded or investigated.
( Original beta sprite ☝️
Decided to do a total revamp and change in design, and ultimately went with a more sleek-looking bell for the tail, as well as lore and abilities unique to how I picture this pokemon functioning. Will have more on it sometime later for sure 👍 ))
