Bad Gal Riri’s Fenty x Puma collection.
Hot off the Interfiliere runway: Nida’s bonded looks paired with Onu culottes.
It’s been a year since we re-launched Sewfree® to the intimates market worldwide at Interfilière in Shanghai. Our first bonded collection, Lingerie to Live in featured best-in-class bonded processes and products designed to deliver impeccable fit, breathability, and all-day comfort to today’s millennial consumer. This year, we were back — well, kind of — to show what else Sewfree can do.
Although our team didn’t attend the show, Bemis was still well represented. We partnered with two authorities in the intimates market: Concepts Paris and Sanko to create another collection of never-done-before intimates. From bodysuits and basics to cropped pants and enviable intimates, each piece beautifully combines trend and technique.
The collection was shown exclusively at Sanko’s booth, where we didn’t just debut bras and underwear, but a range of lingerie and lounge garments. As Jos Berry, founder and owner of Concepts Paris, and one of our style icons, said, “The lingerie market in its totality is too mono-product focused (bras) and starts to be sluggish. Comfort is key but it needs exciting developments in the core knitted underwear markets.” Using her team’s trend expertise to inform the pieces and styles in the collection, we tapped Sanko’s technical know-how as a cotton knitter and spinner to elevate the collection from a fabrics and textile perspective.
What resulted was a collection that delivers heavenly hand feel, beautiful drape, and uncompromising comfort —one that pushes the boundaries of what’s possible from a construction and conceptual standpoint. We’re proud to present it in tandem with these two powerhouse partners, who helped us prove that collaboration really is a beautiful thing.
Stay tuned for further Bemis collaborations with Sanko and Concepts Paris at Interfiliére Shanghai and NYC.
Thanks for following along this month as we explored the more intimate side of Sewfree® bonding. Our final trend is what we’re calling the “rising standard for comfort.” It focuses on design choices that can improve and elevate the experience of wearing lingerie — both bras and underwear.
One thing is extremely clear, the way bras are traditionally made leaves much to be desired. In our consumer survey, 98% of women reported having a “bad bra experience,” citing red marks, gapping, bulges, and bite marks as unwanted side effects. We took those comments to heart and to the drawing board when we designed our Luxe is More set.
The bralette’s relaxed fit introduces bonding with lace and features a gathered bra band, proving that functional design can be feminine and flirty, too. Bonding the bra band reduces material and areas of irritation, so the next-to-skin experience is both breathable and beautiful.
When it comes to the underwear, we used the same peek-a-boo lace effect. The raw edge binding delivers a clean finish without fraying or creating pesky panty lines.
There you have it: clever, technical updates that make redefining comfort totally possible.
Trend alert: underwear as outerwear! This week’s post doesn’t tie directly to a set in our collection, but it does take a closer look at how lingerie is influencing RTW. It’s true that some women are wearing lingerie more conspicuously, but others are flaunting it as a full-blow part of their fashion identity.
When we chatted with Nida about the amount of lace and mesh we’re seeing on the street, she said: “From bustiers and corsets to body suits and slinky camisoles, lingerie-inspired looks are now part of people’s every day wardrobe. For us, that means there’s no room for error when it comes to design. In the Lab, I’m thinking about how do we make this beautiful enough to wear under clothes or over them, and how do we keep it comfortable whether it’s next-to-skin or not.”
Say hello to our All-around Oomph set. 😍
Looks like this show the move away from conspicuous designs, like +2 size push up bras, toward more luxe looks with details as beautiful as they are subtle. They’re designed to amp up sex appeal and sensuality without being obvious — and can be worn under clothes or as their own garment. Per consumer research, women are wearing pieces like every day, not just Valentine’s Day.
In our collection, the luxe details show up in the All-around Oomph set, which we’ll show you next.
Happy Valentine’s Day from the Design Lab!
Today the hidden side of luxury is our main focus. But we’ll get to that later. Next up: some of our inspiration.
