I just realized that no one ever told Sparrow!Ben that Five is not actually thirteen, so he’s just spending this whole time assuming that he is a literal child, and he has absolutely no qualms in attacking him and being his normal rude self.

at first I thought they didn't deal with Klaus losing Ben (everyone else losed him too, but Klaus never grieved him in the first place so I really wanted to see him just... live without his brother for the first time since he was born). I thought that they didn't do shit about it and I was really angry.

but then I rewatched the season.

and what 10 ep of approximatively 50 minutes made me forget is that it only happened in a few days. idk for you but most of the show I watch at least one or two weeks pass in each season (it's often a lot more). but in this show, in this season, it's only been some days.

and Klaus did react. but he didn't react out of sadness or anger or acceptance ; he reacted out of denial. first he tried to hug Sparrow Ben - to be friend with him and get Ben (Sparrow or Umbrella, he doesn't seem to care) back. then when he understand he can't become his friend, he immediately do something to not think about it. goes on a roadtrip with Five to find his mother. investigate on who he is. go on a family trip with his dad and explore his power.

everything as long as he don't think about Ben.

and when he doesn't have anything else to do (except saving the world but the Hargreeves are used to do that while still being mentally unstable) he goes back to trying to be friend with Sparrow Ben. not in the way to try to just replace his Ben, because it's cruel and he knows it. but he wants to be friend/appreciated by Sparrow Ben because it makes it feel a little bit less real.

because he can't conceive that Ben - his emotional support ghost for 15 years, his brother - is gone.

so yeah it was probably like super evident but... idk I needed to say it.

angsty hargreeves kids thoughts:

vanya and allison were actually close, allison always going to vanya if she was upset and vice versa until allison wanted to be famous and slowly stopped going to vanya and eventually stopping all together because she couldn’t see vanya having a positive effect on her career

vanya would make friendship bracelets and other things for her ben and five

when klaus started doing heavy drugs he was hoping that his actions were so extreme that someone would step in and ask him if he was ok or give him help, instead they just turned a blind eye

Five was a middle ground and friends with everybody, he was the tie that held them all together, once he left and never came back everything fell apart

once Five left is when everyone started to pin against vanya

Ben and Klaus were never really close before he died, they were close in the sense of being siblings but they had conflicting personalities

when klaus would tell his siblings about ben they would just think he’s hallucinating from drugs or trying to mess with them

when allison got angry she’d get messy with her powers, using them against her siblings by accident

they could all hear ben crying on a nighttime

diego and ben were close, diego stayed in the academy for ben

luther was super sweet but reginalds favouritism meant everyone found him annoying, making him feel isolated even before they all left
