WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The No. 7/14-ranked West Liberty University men's basketball team opened the season in style Friday night, running away to a 104-82 victory against defending CIAA Tournament champion Winston-Salem State (N.C.) in the Atlantic Region Crossover event inside the ASRC.

We are just hours away from the NCAA Division II Regional Championship games to determine who will be playing in the Elite Eight at the Ford Center in Evansville, IN.
.....and this morning I’m thinking about Coach Jim Crutchfield.
Coach Crutchfield is the Head Coach at Nova Southeastern in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. He’s in his second season as the Head Coach, after a surprising move from West Liberty, where he built one of the most successful Division II programs in the country during his tenure. He left a legacy at West Liberty, and handed the program off to his assistant, Ben Howlett. Coach Howlett has kept it rolling with the Hilltoppers, as they are now 28-4 and will be playing Mercyhurst for the Regional Championship Game tonight.
Meanwhile, Coach Crutchfield has completely turned around the Nova Southeastern program in a remarkably short period of time. The year before his arrival, the Sharks were 6-20 and 3-15 in the very competitive Sunshine State Conference. In his first season, the Sharks went 17-10 and 11-9 in the conference. This year, Nova Southeastern is currently 28-3 and went 18-2 in the Sunshine State Conference. This is the best season that the Sharks have ever had and it’s the first time the Nova Southeastern has ever won the Sunshine State Conference. Tonight, they play Lynn University for the Regional Championship Game for the right to earn a spot in the Elite Eight in Evansville, IN.
What a remarkable job that Coach Crutchfield has done....and what a legacy that he has left. Congratulations to Coach Jim Crutchfield.
