45. Johnlock (:

“Tell me a secret,” John says quietly, whiskey jar in his hand, staring into the flames in the fireplace in front of him. “Anything.” Sherlock just looks at him as if John has just told him that he liked Mycroft.

“Tell me a secret,” John whispers, the words ghosting over Sherlock’s skin, one night when they are in bed, about to fall asleep. Sherlock frowns and doesn’t answer.

“Tell me a secret,” John pleads, rain falling down mercilessly on them, huddled behind a rubbish skip, hiding from a criminal they’re chasing. He’s afraid to die, the culprit has a gun after all and they don’t, and if these are the last minutes he’ll ever have with Sherlock, then he wants to use them. But Sherlock just stares at the street, watching carefully for any sign of the criminal, and doesn’t answer.

“Tell me a secret,” John suggests with a shrug when Sherlock threatens to shoot at the wall again. But Sherlock just bites his lip and fires a shot and John leaves Baker Street to get some air and doesn’t return for several hours.

Months later, when John has already forgotten about the question, Sherlock sits down next to him on the sofa and buries his nose in the crook of John’s neck. “I have thought about my secret long and well,” he says.

“Well?” John asks, wrapping an arm around Sherlock’s shoulder. “What is it?”

“I believe in love at first sight,” Sherlock admits.

John huffs a laugh. “Really? You? I would’ve thought that this would be some stupid romantic concept to you, just like all that other sentimental stuff you don’t really like.”

“It was,” Sherlock agrees. “But then I met you.”

I could feel you freeze at the touch of our lips. I could feel you trembling, I could feel my whole world going down on me from the mistake I had stupidly made a few seconds earlier. I thought this was the moment, I thought this was the right time.  Fuck.

That was when you took your hands and held my head still, keeping me in place as I tried to back off from our touch. Our lips were still touching, or maybe I could just feel the time on them, the unnecessary years leading up to this. And it was just in my imagination.  No.

I didn’t dare to look at you.  Get me out of here.

And you were still trembling. Your whole head was shaking against mine, your whole body felt like it would break any second. And that’s when you pressed your lips against mine again.  What?

You softly put your mouth on mine, forcing my eyes to look up at you, straight into your eyes. They were shining intensely and you kept your lips firmly against mine for what felt like an eternity.  Oh.

And then you couldn’t keep it in any more. You closed your eyes and your mouth that was fighting so hard to be on mine opened slightly, and you started giggling, and the feeling of your laugh against my lips was contagious. Before I knew what was happening, I was laughing too.  Jesus Christ, is this really happening?

Our foreheads were touching and you were still holding my face in place, keeping us both sane though this whole mess. Our teeth were bumping against each other and our noses were smashed together, but we were both still laughing. It was making it hard to breathe, but I could still feel the tension go out of my body in an instant.

It came out as a mumble against your lips.  “Am I really that bad of a kisser?”
