#1215 - Sylvicola dubius - Wood Gnat

Small flies in the small Anisopodidae family -  AKA window-gnats.  154 described living species, 15 genera, and several described fossil taxa.

I found these ones clinging to the underside of sloping tree trunks out at Benger. The top one, with the smaller body but larger eyes, is a male - apparently you don’t see them often, according to Tony D. at BowerBird. Some Anisopodids eat decaying organic matter - others eat fungi. I don’t know what the ones in these genus eat.
