Summary:

Chay doesn’t know what he’s doing. They haven’t defined this, and they haven’t tried to see each other, and Chay’s not sure why Kim hasn’t said anything. He had tried calling Chay so many times, before Chay blocked him, but now he’s not saying a thing.

Ship: Sanae/Benji 536 words Warnings: None! Genre: Fluff

Humming quietly, Benji approached the nearby cafe, glancing up at the sign. WildKat. The cafe had been slowly becoming like a second home to the adult, considering how much time he spent there drawing. With a small yawn, he held onto his bookbag a little tighter before heading inside. 

He was greeted by the barista, who spoke up, “Welcome to WildKat.”

Benji nodded slightly to him with a smile as he approached the counter to order his drink.

“Your usual, boss?” Sanae spoke up, to which Benji nodded in response.

“Yeah, vanilla latte, two packets of sugar. Thanks,” he murmured before going and sitting down at a table. It didn’t take him long to grab out his sketchbook from his bag. Benji took a quick glance around the cafe to take in his surroundings, then proceeded to get to work on his latest piece.

Sanae approached the table a couple minutes later with Benji’s drink in hand, gently setting it down. “You’ve been working on that an awful lot the past few days, haven’t you?”

“Oh… This? Yeah, I have been.”

“Mind if I sit with you while you work on it?”

“Don’t… Don’t you have a job to do?”

“Things are quiet, you’re the only customer I’ve got today. I’ve got the time.”

“Well… Don’t let me stop you…” Benji trailed off. He’d been coming here for at least a month now, and he still didn’t know the barista’s name.

“Hanekoma. Sanae Hanekoma.”

“Oh, well, don’t let me stop you, Mr. Hanekoma. I’m Benji,” he spoke quietly as he introduced himself. He couldn’t help but feel a bit shy.

“Benji, huh? A handsome name for a guy like you,” Sanae responded as he pulled up a chair to sit across the table from the other man. “You’ve got good taste in coffee, y’know.”

“Oh, uh…” He paused, too flustered to speak for the moment. “Th-thank you,” he murmured, fidgeting with his pencil.

“What’s this piece you’ve been working on?” Sanae asked, picking up on Benji’s shyness and deciding to redirect the conversation to a different topic.

“Oh, it’s gonna be a painting of CAT’s Udagawa mural, assuming… You know what I’m talking about?”

“I think everyone knows the Udagawa mural, Benji,” the black haired man responded with a smile.

“That’s true… Well! I’ve spent some time photographing it so I’ve got references to work on it, and… Maybe I’ll have it done by the end of next week, I’m not sure…”

“Well, I’d love to see it when you finish it. From the looks of it, you’ve got a good understanding of the energy surrounding the mural,” Sanae continued, drumming his fingertips on the table.

Benji nodded again, finally taking a moment to drink his coffee.

“Why don’t you give me a few minutes, I’m gonna make myself something to drink and I’ll come back and sit with you. You’re welcome to spend as much time here as you’d like and I’ll keep you company. Sound good to you, Benji?”

“Sounds fine to me,” he murmured, smiling.

And so, he ended up spending nearly the whole rest of the day at WildKat, getting to know Sanae over a pot of coffee while working on art.

this one’s from one of my angst fics but it’s still funny as fuck to me because as i was writing this line all i could think of was “oh! oh! jail for mother! jail for mother for one thousand years!”

here’s another bit i really like from a fic i started last night to cope with some negative thoughts

He reached for his phone, tired eyes watching as he flicked through his notifications. There was one in particular that stood out to him. A simple text reading “sorry.” that he received at 4:41 AM. He glanced at his phone’s clock. 5:45 AM. It’d been about an hour since he received the text and… He wasn’t sure how he felt.

this one’s from one i started today! it’s a backstory fic based on a dream i had last night.

“Oh? A wannabe hero all on his own?” The villain sneered, towering over Wolfgang. “Where’s the rest of your patrol, huh? Did they leave you behind?”

you get a whole paragraph for this one cause i really like this one

“You. Tomura. Jin. Toga. You guys,” Wolfgang let out a heavy sigh, continuing to fidget, “are what’s left to leave. I’m so scared too, Touya. I’m scared that I’ll fuck up beyond repair.”

i hope this is enough cause i have like. 15 wips and if i kept going this would be a very long post

Pegasus

Something I wrote for @cathearth-sso a few months ago!  Basically just Piper taking Dani on a flight with her soul horse.

The sun hadn’t risen yet, but Dani was up, tying on her shoes and stepping outside the main house of Pinto Pegasus Riding School.  Piper was nowhere in sight, yet.  Strange.  She was the one who invited her, after all.  

Dani wasn’t sure what Piper had in mind, especially since she told her to stay over just after Dani had wept on her shoulder.  Clearly this wasn’t premeditated, right?  

After just a few minutes, the familiar clopping of hooves on stone came from the barn, and Piper emerged with Juzo in tow.  The warlander sported no saddle or bridle, only a little rainbow bow above his tail.  Piper didn’t even have him in leg wraps today.  

“Sorry I’m a little late!  I wanted to make sure Juzo had time for breakfast.”  She said, tilting her head toward the hill to the side of the property.  The path she motioned toward led to the arena, the place Dani had her very first lesson at the Academy.  

Dani jogged a little to catch up to Piper, who was setting a somewhat brisk pace up the pathway.  

“Have I put you on Juzo before?”  Piper asked.  

“Juzo?  No, I’d remember!”  Dani said.  “I think you offered, though.”

“Right!  And you went with Zoey!”

“Yes!”

Piper laughed.  “Well I’m sorry to say, where we’re going today, Zoey can’t follow.  At least I don’t think she can.  I’d be like...really shocked.”

They made casual conversation until they reached the final ten feet of the hill leading to the arena, at which point Piper stopped Dani and asked her to wait for just a minute.  She mounted Juzo from the ground, trotting up the rest of the path and turning into the arena outside of Dani’s view.  

“So...I wanted to show you something we’ve been working on for a few months, now.  I mean, I wanted to show all of you in Pandoria at some point, but it feels right that you’re the first to see it.  Before Luciana, even.  It’s just been me and him.” 

There was a little bit of a pause, then Piper called - “Okay!  Come on up!”  

Dani walked until she saw Piper and Juzo, standing in the center of the arena.  Then she stopped.  

Piper was mounted on her soul horse - his coat glimmering red in the upcoming sunrise, his mane reflecting the light like it was carved from polished obsidian - 

...And with massive, black feathered wings.  

“...We learned that we could do this on the Oil Rig.”  Piper said, riding forward.  “Since then, I’ve been working to replicate it.  We hope to use it to get around Pandoria and look for survivors.”  

When she got close, Piper reached out her hand.  “Call it a test flight.”  

After a moment, Dani took Piper’s hand, and Piper hoisted her up on Juzo’s back behind her.  “If you want, you can drive, of course.  Just let me know.”  

At that, she turned back toward Dani, flashed the most wicked smile the selkie had ever seen from her, and clicked her tongue.  

Juzo turned to the inside of the arena and took off at a canter from his dead stop.  His movements were huge and severe, every footfall rocking them.  If Honeybelle was a lazy river, Juzo was a typhoon, with devastating waves threatening to capsize whatever vessel entered his waters.

He took a half-lap around to outside before his back sunk into his gallop.  As he made his way back to the overlook at the cliff, he unfurled his wings, revealing their true size.  From his back, it looked more like the view from the window of an airplane than what she imagined flying on the back of a bird might be like.

“Just like we practiced, buddy!”  Piper called over the thunder of his hooves.  Dani didn’t even notice how close they were to the arena entrance before the thunder stopped.  

It was just a jump.  Off the cliff.  Like every jump she’d seen Piper take before.  

But Juzo caught it in his wings.  

“Oh my GOD!”  Dani yelled.  “Oh my GOD!  Oh my GOD!!!” 

After a few huge, sweeping flaps, Juzo’s wings steadied.  He tilted only a little, letting Dani get a view of the Academy from above.  

“You okay?”  Piper called from in front. 

“PIPER...FUCKING….WIG.”  was all Dani managed to say.  Piper laughed in response, turning Juzo away from the school and toward the sea.  

As they flew, Dani reached out and ran her fingers through Juzo’s feathers.  They were big - a foot or so long and up, and soft, but strong.  

Just as she started settling, Dani felt her stomach rise.  Juzo tucked his wings in just a bit as Piper pitched forward, diving toward the sea.  Dani shrieked - she had never actually been on a roller coaster before, but she figured this was about as close as she’d ever get, and she knew from pictures that you were supposed to raise your hands, right?  

So she threw her hands into the air, tightening her grip with her legs.  Piper looked back in slight alarm, feeling her arms move from around her waist, but quickly smiled once she realized that Dani hadn’t, in fact, fallen off.  

Their dive gently leveled out just above the water.  The ocean was so clear that she could see fish swimming beneath it, blurred from Juzo’s speed and distorted from the ripple his wind cast on the water.  She didn’t dare reach down past his wings to touch, but instead, spread her own arms like wings and leaned back, feeling the tips of her fingers cut the air.  

They began to rise again, and Dani went back to holding onto Piper’s waist as they climbed upward, turning back toward the island.  Piper’s hands were buried in Juzo’s mane, and from what Dani could see on her face, she felt the same blissful freedom she did.  She let herself stay there for the next fifteen minutes, sometimes laying her head on Piper’s back and taking in the view as they soared high over Jorvik, the rising sun painting orange and pink in the clouds.

“I want to drive!”  She called out several minutes later, almost impulsively.  Piper turned back and grinned, immediately asking Juzo to land.  

His landing was certainly gentler than his dive toward the ocean, but thrilling nonetheless.  She set him down in the Forgotten Fields, hoping there would be no one there to see him, yet.   Piper wasn’t quite ready to share...this with the world, let alone the Druids.  

Thankfully they were alone, and Piper hopped down, letting Dani scoot up to the front before effortlessly jumping on behind her.  

“Alright!  He doesn’t really have a cliff here, so he’s gonna need a lot of speed to take flight!”  She instructed.  “You should have plenty of room if you start right here.  Head toward the sea, don’t take too long to get him up to a gallop.  You got this.”  

Without the security of holding onto Piper, Dani took a breath.  

“You are a capable rider, Dani.”  Juzo said, turning back toward her.  “Far more so than you believe.  My wings and hooves will carry us under your guidance.”  

Dani looked back at Piper, who beamed with nothing but pride.  After another deep breath, she buried her hands in Juzo’s mane, clicking her tongue and squeezing with her legs.  

This time, Juzo bolted across the field without even transitioning from a canter.  His wings spread wide, and Dani gripped as he took the final leap that launched them into the air.  

“There you go!”  Piper called from behind her.  “You’ve got this!”  

Dani’s cheeks hurt from smiling as she turned Juzo toward Goldenleaf - toward her little fishing village.  Her home. 

...Her...home.  

...Jorvik was her home, now.  Her friends were her home, now.

They flew for another hour before Piper offered to buy Dani some breakfast - she hadn’t even realized she was hungry.  They chose a little vegan diner in Dundull, a place far outside of Goldenleaf where Dani rarely found the time to make her way to.  

Juzo landed in the forested area of Mistfall and hid his wings before they rode into town.  Dani kept him at a slow trot, aware of how tired he probably was after such a flight.  

“You know, you and Bern are like...perfect, right?”  Piper said as their pancakes arrived.  “I’m actually kind of surprised I didn’t see it coming.”  

Dani looked around, making sure there was no one near that could overhear them and possibly relay that information back to her crush.  

Piper raised her hand assuredly.  “If anyone who knew us was here, I’d know it.  I’ve gotten quite good at identifying listening ears.”  She said.  “Anyway.  I’m not gonna say you need to tell her or anything, I’d be kind of hypocritical if I did.  But I think...I think there’s something there.”

“...Wait, do you think…?”

“Bern’s into you?  Yeah, I do.”  Piper said.  “And if I didn’t, I’d tell you that, too.”  She took a sip of her coffee.  “But either way, if you do want to confess, I have like...ideas.  Sappy ones, fun ones.  I was freaking out over telling Luciana, but...y’know.  She beat me to it!”  

Dani laughed again.  Maybe it was an embarrassed laugh.  Piper just smiled brightly.  

After a minute or so of eating in relative quiet, Dani went ahead and asked.  

“So...fuck it, if I DID decide to tell her, what would you-”

“OH GIRL, okay, so you know how Bern’s like, borderline out of her mind? WELL-...!”
