French billionaire Bernard Arnault coming back from Trump inauguration, saying it was fantastic that France is way behind and implicitly endorsing Musk by saying we need someone to "slash our bureaucracy".
Him and Musk have taken turn being the richest man in the world since late 2010s.
I'm soo fucking done.
Let’s bring back the term “Robber Baron”
I’m not calling them “billionaires” anymore
On my quest to align the actions in my life with my personal values, I have been looking into ways to divest and stop supporting these billionaires. So far, I have deleted my X/Twitter accounts, my Instagram accounts, my Facebook accounts, and (for a separate reason) my TikTok account. I know a lot of people are interested in how to channel their emotions into concrete actions currently, so I’ve compiled a bunch of links I found to help you with this process. Under each linked headline is a little snippet from the piece along with my personal commentary.
This post has actions you can take today to stop spending your time, energy, and money supporting the richest men in the world.
The Spectre
All-Star Comics #7 - “The Spectre” - Gardner Fox and Bernard Arnault.
I'm bringing you news from right-wing thinking
my father was informing me that Bernard Arnault was right to be pissed about his wealth being so highly taxed
Bernard Arnault owns LVMH (French luxury brands like Louis Vuitton and Dior) and is consistently ranked in the top 5 wealthiest men in the world
"he's created so many jobs and has a thriving company, why should he give away more and more money to the state?! why punish his success?!"
now I can somewhat understand when average workers complain about taxation on their wage
but feeling sorry for some French twat that's worth 200 billions because he's upset that he's not worth 400 billions instead? now that's deranged
I was even more baffled when I read Bernard Arnault's Wikipedia page
that shit is so typical it's comical
his first job was... at his father's company, which he inherited! such creativity and entrepreneurship!
then he acquired Dior in the 1980s when the textile sector was in trouble across Europe
because the French state wanted to save that industry, it gave Arnault... state subsidies to finance the acquisition! state handouts to poor Bernard!
so he promised the state that he would keep 12 252 jobs out of 16 000... he broke that promise and only kept 8700! such a job creator!
fast forward to today's news cycle, France has a public debt that's going off the rails so there's talk of raising taxes on LVMH among others
Arnault is of course throwing a fit about it even though this current raise does not even compensate for an earlier lowering of corporate taxes under Emmanuel Macron
not to mention all the public money that was thrown at private companies during Covid
it must be so hard to be leeched off by the state!
I also have to mention that in recent weeks my father has been complaining about... teachers going on strike to protest budget cuts!
protect billionaires at all cost but a labor strike??? from workers with a critically useful job? a strike that doesn't affect my father at all? now that's unacceptable
Macron is setting France on fire because he wants to save 17.7 billion euros in retirement spending by 2030. meanwhile Bernard Arnault, the richest man in France, is now richer than Bill Gates and Warren Buffet put together with 214 billions in wealth and considered the richest man in the world before Elon Musk........ but god forbid we tax him right ? better to make regular people work longer and harder
