My first Long Arm experience! For those of you out there who are not avid quilters, this puppy is the beast of all beasts in the sewing machine world! Whilst stitching Portraits in Taipei, I met Jane, a lady from Hsinchu, she takes sewing machines very seriously. She is a teacher of free motion embroidery. I recently discovered what a Long Arm machine is and been quiet excited about the concept since. I dropped it into conversation. Funnily enough, Jane has the only Bernina long arm in Taiwan! She kindly invited me to her studio to have a play! The Long Arm is very different to a usual sewing machine because you move the needle not the fabric - so actually all my actions must be reversed. It was like having my hands swapped on the wrong arms. Muscle memory is a beautiful but curious thing, it didn't take too long to get the hang of it. I stitched the view over the city which I could see from the window and a couple of Japanese warrior characters. The beautiful thing about this machine is you can see 12 feet of your work at once, whereas when I work with my rather domestic sewing machine, I am always limited to how much of the stitch I can see as I am having to push and pull the fabric around the needle. Lots of potential in this machine I recon! What a beast! Thank you Jane. #longarmquilting #longarmquilter #bernina #berninalongarm #bigstitchquilting #sketchoftheday #lovedrawing #beast #art #cityscape #liveart #taiwan #hsinchu #ilovebubbletea https://www.instagram.com/p/B37D-3hH8D-/?igshid=8ea5j38gk19d
