Bertarido, the idiot, stabs his bff.
while looking for corneille's works in the national library of france's online collections, i found this entry in a dictionary of operas...
haven't been able to find anything of it elsewhere, so far ( unless there's a site that's like corago but for french libretti and that nobody has told me about- which, given some of the things i see on this site, i have a nagging suspicion there is ). will be continuing my search.
just ( well, i'm half an hour in ) sat down to watch garsington rodelinda and as a rule i'm not going to post anything until i'm done, but i just have to make an exception just once.
he's so. ouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuaaaaaahhhhhhh he's so cute...
met opera rodelinda blobs! ( and grimsquare )
this isn't an original idea, but it's still one i doubt many people would know, unless you inhabited a specific corner of the internet at a specific time.
individual blobs below! feel free to use them for whatever, with credit. :)
do you ever think about what happens to bertarido after the curtain goes down? when everything's where it's supposed to be, but not really because he never really wanted the throne. he just wanted to save himself, and the people close to him. and now he's got all this responsibility thrusted on him. and there's the expectation for him to fulfill it. the notion that it's supposed to be this way, in the eyes of everyone but the person bearing that weight himself.
confusa si miri, l'infida consorte / ch' in faccia di morte così mi deride
we're back! and i'm taking act 1 scene 11 as an opportunity to play around with bert and shadows and how they sort of blend together. he's basically a ghost, after all.
rodelinda prod, but they replace bertarido with a baritone: ew.
rodelinda prod, but they replace grimoaldo with a soprano: hm…
