missed the last two days because i was put through the Brain Exploding Machine, but! here i am now! and here's ed! i am patiently waiting to see her aggressively playing with her food. i don't know. that's the most i can say about that scene that was featured in quite a few photos and reviews.
this isn't an original idea, but it's still one i doubt many people would know, unless you inhabited a specific corner of the internet at a specific time.
individual blobs below! feel free to use them for whatever, with credit. :)
What kind of bird would you say Unulfo is? And Eduige?
i have been waiting so long for this. you have no idea.
sooo. unulfo's given me bunting ( genus emberiza ) vibes from the beginning. i don't really have any deeper explanation than that. what kind of bunting he is exactly depends on the production. met unulfo is a crested bunting, glyndebourne unulfo is a cretzschmar's ( quick aside- oh my goodness, that spelling trips me up ), and my own one is a grey.
eduige strikes me as some sort of corvid. either a red-billed chough or some sort of magpie. something about opportunism and the fact that those guys are smart as hell. i haven't done much thinking about her and birds ( but i should do more )
a general idea for the set design of admeto. old house, lots of paintings and antiques everywhere. and of course, i'm taking the chance to hide a bunch of references in them ;)
eduige, in colour! i've been imagining ed as ginger even before watching met rodelinda.
started out as a study of the piazza di monte citorio in rome for flavio ( which is set in a neon futuristic version of the city ), became a thing from the opening sequence, where vitige's riding his... scooter thing through the dark streets.
radamisto set design, feat. zenobia
rodelinda and alessandro ( berenice ). i've said before, somehow i imagined him as looking like rodelinda while listening to the recording from il complesso barocco ( with ingela bohlin as him ), so i took that and ran with it.
for those of you who don't know and/or won't bother to go digging things up ( i don't blame you ) the hidden references in no. 1 are a diorama in the style of the scenery in my radamisto adaptation, a portrait of handel, and a caricature of the performers in flavio.
so far, flavio bertarido feels like an absurd version of rodelinda i'd see in a dream ( shoutout to the nightmare i had where certain people had the ability to naturally time-travel, and i had to go back and apologise to garibaldo for killing him but inadvertently made him the cute himbo protagonist of a YA novel series instead )
flavia ( eduige ) encounters bertarido and mistakes him for gundeberto
also she's having an affair with prime minister oronte, who seems to be taking garibaldo's place while garibaldo is the guardian spirit of lombardy. and it just so happens that guardian spirits are a staple of my dreams.
a lot happens in the woods. also a staple of my dreams, also very much attributed to my upbringing in the country.
unulfo is called onulfo
un- sorry, onulfo in act 1 scene 6. daaaaaaamn.
the abbreviation for bertarido's name randomly switches from "ber." to "bert." sometime in act 1. bert. my good friend bert.
