Most Influential US Non-President Poll
Columbia University Assistant Professor Michael G. Miller is running a March Madness-style tournament through Twitter polls to determine the most influential non-president in US history.
Vox.com covered the tournament details:
Political scientist Michael Miller (with some help from historian Ken Owen) has developed a bracket tournament pitting 64 leading non-presidents against one another. The tournament is being played out on Twitter at the hashtag #bestnonpres...The contest culminates with a final matchup on December 2. (See full article)
The tournament bracket:
Alexander Hamilton is one of the 64 people in the tournament, and has already won his first round of the #bestnonpres poll (against Aaron Burr of all people):
Here’s the schedule for when the next rounds of voting begin:
Second round - November 23rd Regionals - November 30th Semi-finals - December 1st Championship - December 2nd
Voting is done through polls posted on Michael G. Miller’s twitter account (@millerpolsci). Each matchup is posted as a separate tweet, so you’ll have to scroll through his account to see the polls when they are posted to cast your votes.
In 2013, the National Constitutional Center also did a similar voting tournament on “The Best Cabinet Member of All Time” and Alexander Hamilton won the title (see the details here). Make sure to get your votes in to help Alexander Hamilton earn the well-deserved title of most influential non-president in US history!
12/2/2015 Update: Alexander Hamilton in now in the Elite 8, up against John Marshall for the Eastern Final. The poll can be found here.
