"Valued, Treasured, Loved" (Beta-04 x Optimus Prime)
Decided to write a short Valentine's Day Oneshot with Beta-04 and Optimus! Enjoy, everybody!
The Saint Helena Augusta Base was quiet for the most part. Things were idle – the cons had been quiet, though Beta-04 didn’t know if that was a good thing or bad.
It was a dreary February day – the snow lay thick and heavy across the military base, but it wasn’t a wonderland of powdery fresh snowfall. It was damp, and wet, and changed between slush and ice all too quickly.
Most of the bots on base griped and groaned about it, how the slush would get in their joints, or the salt used to thaw the ice would encrust on their pedes – but Beta-04 didn’t really mind. The slush and wet was a sign that winter was slowly losing its grip on the landscape, and spring wasn’t too far behind.
A sign of warmer seasons approaching, if you will.
Along with the change in weather, Beta had noticed a change in morale on this particular day, too. Soldiers were calling home to their families, saying ‘I love you’ – talking about how they had flowers sent to the homes of their significant others.
Beta found it odd, as she stepped into the base – why was today any different when it came to expressing one’s devotion for one another? Beta rubbed her neck as she passed into the main hangar, seeing the familiar shapes and color palette’s of her Autobot comrades strewn about the interior.
Jazz looked up from his conversation with Ironhide and beamed, “Hey, Mamas!” He trotted over, “Happy Valentine’s day!”
Beta paused. Ah. Right. February 14th. Valentine’s Day.
“Huh.” Beta mused, rolling her shoulder, “Totally forgot that was a thing.” She mumbled quietly.
“Only humans have a day dedicated completely for love.” Ironhide rolled his one working optic.
“I think it’s kinda sweet.” Sideswipe chimed in.
“You would, wouldn’t you?” His twin, Sunstreaker griped.
Sideswipe scowled, “You are such a killjoy, you know that?”
Beta rolled her optics behind her battle mask, “Happy Valentine’s, Jazz.” She turned her attention to the smaller mech.
Jazz chuckled, “Surprised you forgot – you’ve been on earth the longest outta all of us.”
“Well –” Beta shifted from pede to pede, “I mean – it's a human thing. Besides . . . never really had someone to celebrate it with.”
Bee chimed in, buzzing excitedly, “You got someone to celebrate it with now, right? Does Optimus know?”
Beta tensed up, feeling a flush cross her face, “God – Bee, Optimus has better things to do than fuss over a human holiday.”
Better things to do than fuss over me.
Beta was quick to quell the rising excitement in her teammates. Her being the only bot in an active relationship often instilled quite the scene when anything romance related would come up.
Speaking of – her being in a relationship was something she never thought possible for herself. Sure she had her . . . careless flings now and again, but nothing that had meat to it. Nothing that mattered.
But this . . . whatever it was she was developing with Optimus, it was different. She felt different. She felt valued.
After completing some mundane tasks, and avoiding some very personal questions about her love life, Beta made a swift exit from the base and began heading back to her hangar. She had every intention of simply lounging around today – relax and recover.
She rounded a corner and froze, seeing none other than Optimus standing before her. He looked just as surprised to see the femme as she was to see him.
“Ah. Beta.” His voice rumbled forth.
“Hey.” She replied, taking a step closer, “I’d avoid the main hangar if I was you.” she mused lovingly.
“Why is that?” Optimus reached forward and gently rested his servo on her arm.
“The others are being very nosey about us.” Beta chuckled, “Valentine’s Day has them all excited.” She shook her head, “I think they live vicariously through us.”
Optimus’s optics softened as a gentle smile crossed his derma, “Thank you for the warning.” he leaned in closer, “And, Happy Valentine’s Day.”
Beta reached up and retracted her battlemask, revealing her scarred face to him, “Awe . . .” she placed her servo on his chest, “Happy Valentine’s Day.”
Optimus leaned in and pressed his derma to her forehead in a loving kiss. Beta’s optics lulled shut as she melted into his affections. When she felt Optimus pull away, her optics fluttered open and instead of being greeted with the sight of his handsome face, she was greeted with something else.
He must’ve had it hidden in his subspace – because in his other servo, Optimus held a rose. Well – not an actual rose. One made of scraps of metal, welded together to created the flower’s shape, with a piece of rebar as the stem.
Beta couldn’t hold back the smile that crossed her face as she took it, “What did you do?” she looked up at him with a sheepish giggle.
“I understand human custom is to give their significant other a flower – specifically a rose – on Valentine’s Day.” Optimus explained, also becoming a little sheepish, “We are titans on this world, and regular roses were not readily available so . . . “
“You made one.” Beta finished, looking at the metal rose in her hands, turning it and examining it, “I love it. Thank you, so much.” she moved closer, “I mean it.”
“I know you do.” He whispered, his voice a low rumble, “And I know that you often think yourself unworthy of acts of affection or gift giving,”
Beta chewed her bottom lip, “Prime-”
“Ah- let me finish,” Optimus placed a digit to her derma gently to silence her, “but you deserve it, as you deserve the world. Your existence has value, your presence is treasured. And this gift . . .” he looked down at the rose, “Is a representation of my love for you – for regular flora only lasts a season – this rose has the potential to last forever. And my feelings for you will do the same.”
Beta swallowed thickly, feeling moisture collect in the corner of her optics as she stared up at him, “If you make me cry in public I will gut-punch you.” She said, her voice quivering.
Optimus smiled at her words, because he knew they had no real intention behind them, “Come here . . .” he gripped her behind her elbows and pulled her into his chest.
Beta let her helm rest on his chest, listening to the thrum of his beating spark, “ . . . Thank you.” She told him, “Thank you, thank you, thank you.”
Optimus gave her a gentle squeeze, “It is my honor.”
“Jazz get the fraggin’ picture-”
Beta’s optics snapped open and she pulled away from Optimus, whirling around and seeing the comical sight of Sunny, Sides, Jazz and Bumblebee all peeking out from around the corner, each one of them having shit eating grins as Jazz tried to hold up a data pad to get a good picture.
“Really?!” Beta snapped, “Don’t you have something better to do?”
“When’s the wedding?” Sideswipe teased, “I think I hear church bells!”
Beta facepalmed hard, as Optimus came up and stood beside her, “Let them do as they please.” he said, “They are merely just jealous.”
Beta couldn’t help but giggle as sounds of aghast offence came from the four younger bots.
“Low blow, OP!” Jazz barked, rolling his optics behind his visor.
“It is merely the truth.” Optimus mused, a gleam of mirth behind his optics.
Beta looked down at the metal rose in her hand as she listened to her teammates bicker – and the femme smiled, feeling her spark swell.
She was valued. She was treasured.
Happy Valentine’s Day everybody!
