he still cycled through names - unsure about which name to go by. he tested several mentally - alex, tyler but james had been a name he settled on. though, yes, it was the name of his dad that had left him and mom, he still liked the name, and liked the name jim. after all, he could tack on junior and make it seem like jim lake was his identity all along and not something he’d come up with at the age of almost eleven.

the kid huffed, leaning over the table of max tennyson’s camper, left hand jutted out as he stared down the black and green watch. it looked like it wasn’t stuck on his skin, yet nothing about it moved. you’d think it was uncomfortable, but it wasn’t. after all, it wasn’t an extension about it. “ben.” he started, tearing his eyes from the hourglass on its glowing face to stare up at green eyes. “hey, ben. what was your school like? boring?” he asked, still not knowing too much about the other. 

he wanted to learn more about ben, they got along well ( and watching him bicker with gwen proved to be entertaining - when his brain wasn’t grappling with the fact he still needed a name or there were now ten aliens he could become ) and he called his mom when he could on their trip. things got a little easier, but always winced when calling. he’d figure out something soon.

Any gift from Ben was loved. But now it was her turn to offer him a gift bag which contained the newest released video game that he’d been talking about for a while and a few other knickknacks he enjoyed.

Inner Struggle

Her smile could light a city. Her personality could fill a country. But her insecurities would be consumed by the sea, if she didn’t have a few boats of hope that set sail.

You could be that hope. Your love for yourself could then reach the heavens. But right now, your love can only reach the end of the hallway. Look at what’s beyond the hallway. There is so much more to see.

Be that hope. Open the door. Look past that hallway. Be that hope for yourself.
