Nervously wringing her hands, Beverly tilted her head so she could rest it on Ben’s shoulder. This is enough. she told herself. She saw the looks she got from both Bill and Richie. She saw the look that Mike tried to conceal. They were all silently asking her a question that she’d never answer. A question that they’d never ask with their words because they knew all the implications it held. Still, they couldn’t help but ask with their eyes. The way their eyes lingered was enough for her to feel it hanging in the air. Are you still my girl? It made her skin crawl and she knew it was supposed to be different coming from them, but she hated it. Beverly wasn’t anyone’s girl, she wasn’t even her own girl.

Blinking back tears, she closed her eyes and tried to pretend she wasn’t surrounded by the six boys she had spent her childhood with. She loved them, she really did. Beverly just didn’t love them the way she thought she was supposed to. The way they loved her. Biting her lower lip, she took a deep breath and ignored the way Ben’s hand searched for her’s. They loved her and she should accept it. It wasn’t like anyone else was going to love her like that. This was as good as it was going to get.

beverly was smarter than this usually, always know where she was or at least had a ride home. but tonight, neither of those things were in her favor, plus being in the middle of nowhere didn’t help. she hugged her jacket closer to her body, walking for a few minutes. most lights were around her and a payphone was about a block ahead. but, she still couldn’t figure out where she was. once getting to the payphone, she started dialing a number and hoped he’d answer.
