Get Behind Yourself!
Today I heard something that stuck with me.
A guy in a movie asked an older, more experienced man for advice about training and becoming stronger. The answer was simple:
“You have to get behind yourself. In front of yourself is just a facade. If you can get behind yourself and truly back yourself, there’s nothing you can’t achieve.
The more I think about it, the more it makes sense.
Most of us spend so much time standing in front of ourselves. We build an image. We show people our progress. We post the workout, the miles walked, the meals, the achievements, the version of ourselves we want others to see.
But eventually you have to ask who all of it is for.
The likes stop feeling important. The compliments fade. The motivation that comes from other people eventually runs dry. And when that happens, you’re left alone with yourself.
That’s where it matters.
There is nothing wrong with being proud of yourself, and there is nothing wrong with sharing your progress. But if you do it for everybody else, sooner or later you start losing the reason you began.
It’s for you.
And maybe that’s what getting behind yourself means. Not standing in front of the mirror asking whether everyone else approves, but standing behind yourself quietly, supporting the person you’re becoming.
Because if you’re in your own corner, you don’t need the crowd nearly as much.
